Hello ISW...

If the application that's hanging on shutdown is iexplorer.exe rather than iexplore.exe, then you likely have a malware infection.

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions you'll find there.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Do Not reply to or "bump" your own topic...if it shows a reply, it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.

Is it explorer.exe? If it is open regedit and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

In the right pane look for AutoEndTasks and set it's value to 1.

Also go here: http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en

Download the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service. Be sure to read the info. on the download page.

Please be patient. This is an extremely busy malware removal site. It can take to 1 to 3 days for one of our trained experts to get to your post. If, after 3 days you have still not had a response, post here: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Waiting-Room-f100.html and include a link to your post in the malware forum.
