Greetings,

I just joined the site and have gone through a few of the posts and resolutions and haven't been able to find one that exactly matches my issue so I hope that someone will please assist me with getting rid of the problems that I am encountering.
I was on myspace and checked a users page who requested to be my friend when a windows security box popped up and it really seemed to be my security center so I clicked on it to download an update. Since that point I have been getting the yellow triangle with the exclamation point stating that my pc has spyware and one that says you pc is running slowly as well as internet attack attempt detected. I have clicked the box before and a site comes up on IE which says about:security I right clicked to get the url and it says livesecuritycenter.com/?aid-373.0. I also get pop ups saying that I have been infected with stc loader.exe 2nd Thought, 180 Solutions, trojan downloader.xs, and tx4 browserad adware.
I have attempted to remove the 180 solutions program, the 180search assistant, and internet explorer but they replace themselves. I even used instructions from another site which gave a list of files to remove and they come back as well. I have run my Norton and it finds nothing, I have run windows defender, the malicious removal tool, avg free spyware, I tried changing the registry so that I could enter the task manager and it changes back to 1. I have a desktop screen that leads to the livesecurity page as well. I attempted to delete the desktop from the drive and it replaces itself. I have firefox installed but just cannot get rid of IE to see if the malware is attached to it. Please assist me with this issue. Your help will be gladly appreciated.

Hello walton74 and Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Could you please post with a HijackThis log so we can have a better look at your system.

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Thank you for the logs. :)

Now let's start removing those infections.

Please read this post completely before proceeding. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

First, please

1. Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

2. Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop

Then, please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Next,

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.

Some nasties didn't go. Let's use a different tool. :)

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

I thank you sincerely and I will be sure to donate when I can. I love this stuff and would love to learn to help others the way you have helped me can you teach me some tricks or some good things to know. I know you don't have the time to get into all of the complicated things but maybe some of the simpler stuff and I will help people here as much as I can. Thank you so very much. GOD bless you. Thank You

Hold your horses, we're not done yet. We still have to do some check... :)

First,

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
