I've had this computer 7 months, and finally found how to change the settings to not automatically update Windows. What is the general concensus here, or is there some forum I can follow to advise whether to allow the updates?

Well it is usually best to download the updates as they can be security fixes, and fixes for bugs. If you are unsure weather you need the updates or not, i would recomend just downloading the high priority ones.

But then again...

"No, we didn't bother to ask if you wanted the update, we just did it".
That was funny. But also not funny. For us non-geeks, Click Here, Restart Now, is all so intimidating. I rely on the Geeks for my anti-spyware advice(SuperAntiSpyware and Spyware Blaster), and actually all my computer advice. My husband never updates, has no anti-spyware, never cleans cookies(he does not want to re-type his yahoo password)so I pretty much do not listen to him.
