At the risk of my post accidentally showing up twice, I did check 1st to see if my 1st attempt 5 minutes ago did post when it dissapeared & gave me a "must enter post" error. It looks like I just have to start this over, bumber! I have always run Norton Anti-Virus & Spy Sweeper, doing regular computer & program updates & scans. I usually get cookies, & the ocassional low risk stuff to auto fix. But the PC was slowing down & I added Reg Cure (trial), Pc Doc Pro 3.5 & a-squared to the list of programs to run & update. They seemed to help a little, but then the pop-ups with the infection warnings & adds for the fixing software reffered to all over scam reports, started. I tried to do immediate scans with all 5 of my programs, which caught some, but must have been missing alot. I started to see more cookies, now trackers & inevitably viruses like Trojans & backdoor stuff. In searching, I noticed folders & files in my administrator folder that didn't belong: one ending in "virii" which led me to you, desktop = blackbird, editorfkwp1.5 & 2.0, filemanagerclient, fkwp1.5 & 2.0, webd, webeditor, trojan.win32.blackbird, etc., got randome audio clips that weren't mine would play for no reason at different times durring computer use, my desktop icon names were highlighted in blue like they were chosen, the task manager disabled (which I fixed). So I started to put some of the sites that were popping up, in the restricted site area of security, I got to your site, sownloaded all programs, followed direstions & made logs, did the final reboot, & noticed some changes for the better in the way of less pop-ups, no audio clips playing, etc. Below I will paste all the logs that were asked for, with headings, & ending with the HijackThis log. Please do what you can ASAP. Thank-you in advance, Ryan

Hello

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Here is the Combofix & new hijackthis log. I hope I had everything turned off correctly as per the side link about shutting things down. Also what is the thing that the Combofix log says I don't have installed in the 1st line hilighted in red? Do I need it, & where do I get it? I am sorry that I didn't respond immediatly, but I was very busy otherwise. Thanx in advance for your continued help.
Ryan

Sorry bout that

1. Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):

O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkLFyaY - jkkLFyaY.dll (file missing)
O24 - Desktop Component 0: Privacy Protection - (no file)
O24 - Desktop Component 1: My Current Home Page - About:Home

2. Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan. Check all the boxes and click Start Scan
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log and tell me how your PC is running

After the reboot, things are still a bit sluggish. Plus, one of the entrees you told me to have hijackthis fix, “024 – Desktop Component 0: Privacy Protection – (no file)” is still there, after doing it twice. I still have the blue highlights around all of the desktop items, & it may still be running a bit sluggish (but I can’t really tell). My Norton still says that the auto protect is off, I try to fix it by updating, but when it’s finished, it’s still not resolved, or only temporarily so. How about any other erros we have found in the past in other scans (which you should have a record of in past parts of this post), or things that are quarantined in other scan programs (which I don’t even know if there actually still are). I only installed & ran the programs you told me to. Other than that, I just have the others I listed in the 1st email.

I haven’t run a check with any of those since before I installed all the new ones that Geeks has told me to since I started. Actually, after running a search for .vir files in the computer, I found that Qoobox has 64 of them in quarantine, of which are listed below from the combofix quarantined files file:

And, Norton Anti-Virus that usually starts automatically when the system boots, hasn’t, but will if I start it manually. Of which when I do, it reports that it’s fine, but still doesn’t show up on my active programs bar. Hope to hear back soon, & hope this is almost over, cause I still got the other Laptop’s issues to revisit, to learn how to make & use a restore disk, & how to change my isp router situation to be ready to combat that virus attack possibly coming, which was reported on the homepage.

Hello

Before we begin, you should save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for easy reference. Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Reboot and post a new HijackThis log

Here is the Smitfraudfix report & the new Hijackthis log. It looks like it took care of the remaining 024 missing file issue, but my Norton Anti-Virus Auto Protect stuff is still giving me errors, & is in the red X stage upon startup. Plus all the other things I mentioned still exist from before, with the exception of there are no more highlights around the desktop icons, & the computer is just a little bit faster then sluggish, but not by much. Please re-read my last post, to address all the other things I brought up too. And let me know what to do next.
Ryan

This time after reboot, the laptop seems to be a bit more like normal speed, which was never lightning fast no matter what I did to the registry ever, or which processes I shut down at any one time. I used regedit to stop power iso, limewire, musicmatch & nero from starting upon start-up again. Norton seems to now all be in the green, & it started it's own virus check, so I will let it go, & run a Spy Sweeper one too. I will wait for your response about items currently quarentined being able to be deleted or not, doing final checks for any remaining traces of anything wrong, how to make an external restore disc & how to use it, how to do that isp/router rearrange so that I don;t get that upcomming attack, & then we can move onto the other laptop's issues. I am hoping that I can use a restore disc from one laptop, on another, even though the drivers aren't the same, cause I guess we can always make a copy of one without them, & add the ones for the laptop it will be going to. Finally, believe it or not, I have a Pentium II that I formatted, but have lost most of the Windows '95 & '98 stuff to get it back. So hopefully I can download & burn a fully-working & bootable copy of a full '98, cause that's all it will take without running too slow. I will chat whith you soon I hope for my computers' sakes,
Ryan

Look, I appreciate all your help so far, & I am deepy greatful for such a place where regular people genuinly wish to help other regular people combat these horrible viruses which (I am sad to say) were made by other regular people who gain pleasure out of doing the world harm. But, I never get any responses to any of the other items I include in these post replies to you. I know you are very busy helping everyone that you can, but all of my points & questions are just as important, & deserve some sort of acknowlegement, & the assurance that it will all be handled in good time. So I had someone tell me about the possibility of making a ghost disc instead of a restore disc, which do you think is better, quicker, more fullproof, etc.? There has even been mention of discs without the need to make an image file? Who knows?! And I know that torrents are risky, & that rounters always cause connection & file communication issues, but now it seems that Utorrent is always now either showing a yellow exclamation oint triangle, or a red circle, & it says that the port isn't forwarding properly. I change the port in the applications & gaming section of the router site, & the settings section of Utorrent, shut down & restart, but it soesn't ever change to a green circle anymore. It always went back & forth from caution to go, & there is always a moving upload & download speed, but now it moves, with only yellow or red. Is that isp/ rounter virus attack starting already? Please review & address all of the other questions I have been asking all along too, besides the prime objective we have been fixing so far.
Thank you in advance, Ryan

Below, please find that log that you asked for in the last reply above, (ps- I got rid of the Girls Gone Wild stuff, the torrent, original files done downloading, & the ones that still were):

I can't help you with p2p issues. It also helps if you use paragraphs if you want all your questions answered or else I will miss them

Your logs are clean ! We need to do a few things

Follow these steps to uninstall Combofix and tools used in the removal of malware
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
    Posted Image

You now need to update your Java and remove your older versions.

Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

* Click Start > Control Panel.
* Click Add/Remove Programs.
* Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name.
* Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE), and install it to your computer from
here

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:
SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
Here

* Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place'
Here

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Who knows what you mean about only writing in paragraphs, so that you catch all the information I type.
To help, I shortened the distance that each sentence goes on this reply. I hope that is better for you.
I have read & done all that was in the last reply from you & it's links. Here is a list though of other issues
I mentioned in past replies, that you mentioned you must have missed, along with details on any issues I
am still having: Your opinion on which is better: #1. making a ghost image disc or a restore disc, & how
to do it, what programs are recommended. #2. Should I delete any other of the programs I have been
using, so far, that you have seen mentioned in the logs? #3. Should I delete any items still in Quarantine
in any programs I am currently running? #4. I need to know how to prepare & change my internet &
router setting to be ready to combat that isp/router attack that is mentioned on the homepage.

Here is a list of other things I am running into: An error: MSIEXEC.EXE referring to the ssv.dll file came up
when I removed java™ 6 Update 3, but I allowed it when I installed the fresh stuff cause it does involve
an IE toolbar right?! Next, I found: trojan-backdoor.gen when I uninstalled combofix (which went into spy
sweeper quarentine), was I correct in deleting it? And lastly, how about the: Trojan.Win32.Agent.jqa
found, & the virus in the Smitfraud program files, along with the corrupt restore & system hkey type files
that were sited in that kaspersky log you said was clean? Naturally, I wonder how if I am really clean, &
your job is done here, how come I am finding that the description for the trojan stuff I am finding says it
will continue to modify settings, & how come both ad-aware & Windows Defender is finding things? I have
a feeling I am still far from out of the woods on this. Which means I have to wait longer to start fixing the
other laptop.

I am hoping though, once I find out which type of fix is better (ghost or restore disc) & which
program is the best at them, I can make one for this laptop, & use it for the other one after merely
formatting it. I know the drivers will be different, but I have no problem updating those manually after,
cause it's all the time it takes to install everything else, that the restore disc or ghost image would help me
avoid.

Here is a fresh hijackthis log just to see. Adaware found 51 tracking cookies, & microsoft defender found nothing. But upon restart, Norton was x ed out again, & it was auto protect with the issues as always. It comes & goes with slight tweeks to it. I may just have to unintall, wipe & reinstall it, Which I will try at a later date on my own, & tke up with you guys & symantic. However, while updating things in order to try to fix auto update this time, it said it detected two
symantic server entries in the host files of windows, which it says should never be there: 127.0.0.1 om.symantec.com, & 127.0.0.1 tc.symantic.com. What now?! & what of the other issues I re-brought up?

Hello

#1. making a ghost image disc or a restore disc, & how
to do it, what programs are recommended.

#1 - Ask in the Windows XP forum about that
#2 Yes
#3 If you want to
#4 Ask in the Windows XP forum

As for other programs finding stuff, that is the infections we quarantined and are nothing to worry about

Anything else ?

Thank you for all your help, it is ashame that I know so little. Every time you think
from the research & the last bunch of troubleshooting sessions that you know alot,
you find that there is still such a long way to go it tech knowlege acquisition. The
only other favor I am going to ask you specifically is, that I will make a specific list
of all the virus, registry & spyware scan & fix programs I can find on the machine,
& if you could just tell me which to delete & which to keep, that would be awsome:

*Smitfraudfix (was added during clean-up)
*Ad-Aware 2007 (keep)
*Ad-Watch 2007 (keep)
*hijackthis (keep)
*Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (was added during posts)
*Norton Internet Security 2007 (keep)
*RegCure (was added when I 1st got the slowdown issues, but before posts)
*Spy Sweeper (keep)
*SpywareBlaster (keep)
*SpywareGuard (keep)
*SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition (keep)
*ie-spyad (keep?, was added during posts)
*Even though I followed the directions given, I still see a Combofix file in
Local Disk C: CF10950, how do I make sure it's all gone?
*a-squared Anti-Malware [free trial] (added when slowed, but before posts)
*What is "ComPlus Applications"? The folder is empty
*ActiveScan 2.0 & NanoScan (added during posts)
*Windows Defender (keep)
*PC Doc Pro 3.5 (which I had downloaded a full version from Utorrent when
I 1st slowed down, it alwas worked fine, but this time it freaked out giving me errors
when I tried to open & use it: it did two ping-sounding beeps & a fatal error noise,
then started listing these errors to click thru: CArmadillo.UserName (2 of them),
CArmadillo.UserKey (3 of them), CArmadillo.Expired, then once I clicked ok thru them,
it got to the program. I scanned the start file with Norton & Spy Sweeper, & there was
no virus stuff detected. I know that it was a cracked process that made it a full version,
but it never did all these errors before. I even analized the original crack folder
downloaded from Utorrent (with the same 2 programs), & it found nothing. I uninstalled
the program, but the craking folder is still waiting to see if you think it is ok to reinstall &
keep as a program too.

And, along with "keep" or "not" notes you'll make, any of the programs above, & fixes or
responses to the programs I added notes with, any of the ones I noted as "keep," if you
don't agree, just tell me so.
Ryan
