Hey gang, i am new to this site, but it's pretty cool.

I have a very strong computer background, but I have not touched a Windows box in 4 years, which is why i am writing to you.
I just got back home, and my parents still have this old computer, it was completely infected with hundreds of trojans and backdoors...
so I had a rough few weeks getting rid of locksky.cm and other things that did not allow them to use their internet...

LONG STORY SHORT,
what's the better anti-virus programs out there nowdays ?

you may want to start at the malware forum Start HERE....

That will help you clean up 80 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty (and you may not be) then start a new topic in the MALWARE FORUM forum here...
AVG for your AV...
* SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.

get the hosts.zip here...includes instructions

To keep your operating system up to date visit

* Microsoft Windows Update monthly...

And to keep your system clean run these free malware scanners

* AdAware 2007
* Spybot Search & Destroy

weekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this article by Tony Klien: So how did I get infected in the first place?...here...
