My Computer Keeps Overheating!

My cpu keeps overheating all the time and shutting down automatically. I googled and read that i need a new Fan. i read about the sockets but i still dont really understand how fans work and which ones work with my computer so if someone could pick one out for me at bestbuy.com or something i would really appreciate it. These are my system specs.

Gateway 825GM Windows XP media center edition 2005 pre-installed
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 550 supporting Hyper-Threading Technology.
Processor speed 3.4 Ghz, 800MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache
