I've been cleared from malware and they sent me here to get the rest of the help I need.

i'm running Vista of the main computer and XP on the laptop.
my laptop can no longer find my main (the big desktop model) computer files (the one that was cleaned of all the junk stuff) that are set up for sharing. :-(
For example if I open Excel (or Word or whatever) on my laptop and click open, then network places, and then entire network the only networks it shows are Microsoft Terminal Services, Microsoft Windows Network, and Web Client Network. There is no thehalenetwork (the name of our home network system). If I try to open a file from a recently used file list it says it cannot be found

I can still access the internet from my laptop with no problem but cannot print from the laptop or work on the files from the main computer which I could do before. Remote access is enabled on the main computer and all files are still labeled for sharing.

How can I get my laptop back on so I can work from it and print from it etc?

If you could provide me with the names of the shared folders you should be able to access and the name of the printer plus the steps below I will give you a step by step instruction on how to open a shared folder from your laptop.

I'd like to see some more information. Please follow the steps below.

• Go to Start -> Run.
• In the Box, type in "cmd".
• A black box will appear. Type in: "ipconfig /all".
• A lot of information will appear, Please right click the black window and hit mark.
• Select every line of text you recieved and copy it into your next reply.

I want to be able to access my entire c drive, previously I had only gotten certain folders to share ie Beckys stuff and a few others
The printer name is Canon MP 160 Printer
there is also another desktop model in the house that connects to the internet via our wireless with a printer that I would like to be able to access from the other computers as well

Are you using vista?
You want to have access to the complete C:\ drive?
Did you already share the printer, if yes under what name did you share it?

tha main computer is using vista (it came with it and I DON'T like it, I can't find anything)

the laptop is using XP

the downstairs computer is Vista

yes I would like to access the entire c drive on the main computer from whichever computer I am working on but primarily the laptop

yes previously I could access the printer and print from the laptop regardless of which user was signed onto the main computer

yes i could previously access some of the files on the main computer, I had figured out how to share specific folders but never figured out how to share the entire drive, it never would let me

Now I can't print, I can't access, I can't do anything from the laptop except access the internet

Ok, lets get access to the C:\ drive first.
Keep in mind that doing this might comprimise some security so make sure your network is secured from the outside (If you're using wireless please make sure you turn on the encryption and make up a secure code.)

Some of the words here are quoted and when you're supposed to type something you shouldn't type in the quotation marks.

Follow these steps to share your C:\ Drive.

• Open your My Computer
• Right Click on your C:\ drive.
• Click on Properties and go to the "Sharing" tab.
• Share this drive as "C"

Go to your laptop and follow these steps.

• Go to your My Computer
• In the top click on "Tools"
• Then select the option "Make New Network Drive" (this could be worded diffrently as i'm using a dutch version of XP)
• You'll see 2 boxes, In the top one Select the drive letter you want for your main computer's C:\ drive.
• In the bottom box type: "\\192.168.1.108\C" and tick the box "Reconnect at login"

you now should have access to your C:\ drive on your laptop

ok when I went to the c drive it already said
C:/

when I followed the steps on the laptop it says
"the network path \\192.168.1.108\c could not be found"

looking at this now...could the lower case c have anything to do with this? This is exactly what comes up on both of the computers

No, the drive was probably shared as: "$C:\" which is an administrative share.
Sorry I forgot to mention this. You'll have to make a share yourself and name this "C" caps or no caps shouldn't matter.

In the "Shareing" tab there whould be a button called "New Share".
If you hit that and then in the white box (that previously said "$C:\") type "C"

nope no new share box...only something that says advanced sharing and when I click on that it brings up two things
a box that says share name and below that its says C which I can't change other than to remove it and a add and remove button and then a comments section

I think i'll need to play this a bit on feeling, as I've only used vista so many times.
Have you tried clicking the "Add" button to add a new share?

yes it just tells me to name it and a box for a description and then I click apply and then it takes me back to where it says

I'm leaving for class right now but I'll be able to access the internet in about 2 hours from school so I'll check back then...
