what does it mean when you get the internel server error ?

hi i've been getting this weird error that i used to never get i'm trying to figure out what it is the error says internal server error does this mean that a server inside my computer is messed up or something how do i fix this problem i've noticed that my computer will show it being connected but my computer has actually lost the connection cause sometimes my phone will ring but when i connect i disable call waiting so it shouldn't kick me off line can someone please help me understand whats going on with this cause i'm very confused as to whats happening thanks in advanced
