Hey guys, I'm new to the forums so I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself and thank you in advance. I stumbled upon the Geeks To Go forums while trying to find some help for this DLP.dll infection Bitdefender says my system is currently troubled by. From what I could find trolling on the Geeks To Go forums, maybe it's a Vundo but I'm not sure.

Some of the symptoms I'm going through with my system are Firefox unexpectedly terminating with no error message (like it had never even been opened), unable to open Microsoft Office or view Office document related files. These are all of the problems or symptoms I've had to date. Recently I just had a problem with a Java Run Time Environment exploit Adware which I think I've managed to fix.

Any who, here's my Hi-Jack This log and an Uninstall log as recommended. Anything else needed please don't hesitate to ask. Many thanks for your help and taking a look!

Hi myironlung,

Welcome to Geeks to Go!
My name is sage5, and I will be helping you with this problem.

Please download the following & save to your Desktop:
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here
Deckard's System Scanner
OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.

Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Save the report as C:\mbam.txt and include it in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Run Deckard's System Scanner:
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double click on the dss.exe file on your Desktop and follow the prompts.
  • Scans will run, and 2 text files will open in Notepad.
  • Close both of the text files.
These files are C:\Deckard\System Scanner\main.txt & extra.txt.
I will need you to copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of
  • main.txt
  • extra.txt
  • C:\mbam.txt
in your next reply.

The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum, and may need to be sent over 2 or more posts. Please ensure all text is posted.

Cheers,

sage5

Hi myironlung,

Your log shows you are not running Anti-virus or Firewall software.
These are essential items and need to be loaded before we can continue fixing your PC.

I have listed a couple of free versions of both. Please download and install 1 Anti-virus and 1 Firewall.

Firewalls: Please install one only.
Comodo Firewall Pro or Sunbelt Personal Firewall

Anti-virus: Please install one only:
Avast! Free Edition or AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Anti-Virus Tutorials/Manuals:
Avast Tutorial
Avast Manual
Antivir Manual

Please allow the new Anti-virus to run a full System scan, and at the end of the process you should be able to save a scan log.
If the scan report window does not have a Save as Repot Button (or similar), you may be able to highlight the text in the window & copy & paste it to a new Notepad file.
Save it as C:\avscan.txt if you can.

I see you have Azureus installed on your system.
While the program itself is legal, most of the files downloaded with it, are not.
These programs can also be one of the major infection routes for an otherwise secure PC, because you might be unknowingly downloading infected files.
I highly recommend uninstalling Azureus as outlined below.

Remove folders & files:
  • Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following, (if present):
    Azureus
Please take note of any other programs that you don't recognise in that list, and include them in your next response
  • Using Windows Explorer, (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), delete these folders, (if present):
    C:\Program Files\Azureus

Fix File Associations:
  • Go to Start > Run and type or paste "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Place a checkmark next to all the entries that appear in red
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Re-scan and save the logfile. This will default to daft.txt
  • Save it to your C:\ drive, I'll need that log later.
If everything is ok again, it should display the "all associations ok message"

I need you to post me a fresh HijackThis log to confirm correct installation of the Anti-virus and Firewall programs.

Hey Sage! Enclosed please find a fresh Hi-Jack This scan and my AVSCAN.txt scan. It found a KillaV Trojan and I deleted it through the program. I noticed that you recommend I uninstall Azureus. I do use Bittorrent frequently, is there a safer Torrent program for me to use than Azureus that you can recommend?

Also initially, I was getting the following error after installing the Sunbelt Firewall: "KFR Initialization Failed: Driver Not Found" with a following balloon pop up in my system tray saying "Sunbelt Firewall is turned off, Click balloon to fix the problem." I promptly restarted and the Firewall went up no problem after booting Windows.

My Microsoft Office and related documents still are not loading but I haven't seen Firefox close abruptly yet. I will await your response and thank you as always!

Hi myironlung,

In order of appearance:

I noticed that you recommend I uninstall Azureus. I do use Bittorrent frequently, is there a safer Torrent program for me to use than Azureus that you can recommend?

Answer:
The whole use of P2P (Peer to Peer) programs, like Azureus & Bittorrent , is risky for a number of reasons:
I will just deal with the security issues, without opening the ethical/copyright can of worms.

a) Most of these apps require some form of port forwarding. This involves forcing router ports to be open to the internet, reducing the security of your hardware/software firewall.

b) You have no way of knowing that what you are downloading is infected/compromised.

c) You also have no way of knowing what potentially harmful malware is running on the PCs you are connected to.

d) Many of the P2P & crack/keygen sites are responsible for "drive-by" infections, which then load other malware onto your PC later.

My Microsoft Office and related documents still are not loading but I haven't seen Firefox close abruptly yet.

Let's check your system files are not corrupted/missing & then a repair install of MS Office.

System File Checker:
  • Go to Start > Run and type sfc /scannow (Note the space between the c & the /)
  • /scannow starts the System File Checker immediately.
  • You will probably need your Windows XP CD to be handy as it may be required.
If you have Service Pack 2 installed, you will need the SP2 version of the CD. This can be done with a borrowed CD, if you don't have one.
  • Allow the scan to run and when complete reboot the system

Repair you Office installation:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  • Select Microsoft Office 2003 and click the Change button.
  • Select the Reinstall or Repair option.
  • Follow the prompts to complete
  • Restart the PC when finished

Let me know how you get on.
