Hi, I am currently having problems with my computer. I have ran a couple of virus scans in and out of safe mode, with nothing major turning up. The symptoms of the problems are that I'm unable to do a system restore, unable to download an update from windows, unable to open programs such as a music player and a video editor, and my computer has slowed down durasticly.

Heres the log, thanks for your time and thought

Hi, Williare :)

Welcome.

Open Notepad. Select Format from the menu. Uncheck Word Wrap. That should allow us to better read your logs.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Hello :)

First of all, thanks for the feedback :)
Second, I'm sorry to make things worse for me and you, but whenever I click either link to Combofix, I get an error message, causing my browser to close down (this happens on other sites I used to regularly visit too). I have tried more than enough times on the same links and have also tried google-ing the program, with no sucess. I'm starting to think this problem is worser than I thought. :)

Im pretty much clueless on what to do now, but maybe you have more tricks up your sleeves. :)

Sorry for the delay....

Heres the new HijackThis log and the Combofix log. Note: I didn't think you would need to view them, so I removed the log of temporary internet files from the Combofix log.

  • Close any open browsers.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Leave all settings as they appear as default, except for the following:
  • Under Drivers, select "Non microsoft".
  • Under Rootkit Search, select Yes
  • Under additional Scan select the following:
    • Uncheck "Non Microsoft Only".
    • Reg: Botcheck
    • Reg: File Associations
    • Reg: Security Settings
    • Reg: Software Policy Settings
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • The program will be scanning huge amounts of data so depending on your system it could take a long time to complete. Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Save that notepad file
Use the Reply button and attach the notepad file here (Do not copy and paste in a reply, rather attach it to it).

Hi, Williare :)

Start OTScanit. Copy/Paste the information in the Quotebox below into the pane where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. CLick the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here along with a new OTScanit scan and a Hijackthis log.

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Also let me know of any problems you encountered performing the steps above or any continuing problems you are still having with the computer.

Please run the MGA Diagnostic Tool and post back the report it shall produce:
  • Download MGADiag to your desktop.
  • Double-click on MGADiag.exe to launch the program
  • Click "Continue"
  • Ensure that the "Windows" tab is selected (it should be by default).
  • Click the "Copy" button to copy the MGA Diagnostic Report to the Windows clipboard.
  • Paste the MGA Diagnostic Report back here in your next reply.

Uhh, this might be a problem:

I copied and pasted the exact code and OTScan does its error fixing. The problem is, after it restored my desktop and removed the code, it didn't supply a notepad and I was unable to close it. I left it alone for 15 minutes thinking it was just going slow, but 15 minutes later, it was in the same state. I ended up "Control+alt+delete"ing it so i could post this.

Go on with the directions from your last post or use an alternate method?
