I've recently bought a new laptop running vista and an easy transfer cable to copy all my files. I did so without a problem, however i have now decided to downgrade my laptop to XP as im not too fond of vista as it is. The "easy transfer cable" is meant for transfering files between an old xp machine and your new vista computer but is it possible to transfer files using the cable between two computers both running windows xp? You can't do it the normal way by opening up the little application as it doesn't detect a connection due to the lack of vista. Any suggestions?

Have you already wiped out Vista? You realize doing so may void the laptop warranty, right?

If not, I would setup a dual boot with Vista and XP on the same machine. That way you can use XP when you want and still have Vista to play with. Perhaps at some point you'll want to use it again and this is the best way to accomplish that.

See here for explicit instructions: http://apcmag.com/54...ng_vista_and_xp
This one seems a bit cleaner: http://www.pronetwor...about88231.html

What is make and model number of the Easy transfer cable you purchased? Perhaps they have a driver or directions for using it XP to XP on their web site?

yeah im aware of warranty, but ive switched back to vista anyway as some of the laptops drivers arent available for XP or at least hard to find, i decided the switch wasn't worth the hassle. However it would still be useful to be able to transfer files between two xp pc's using the easy transfer cable.

Is there a third party program i could use? You have to install the easy transfer wizard on the xp machine and its already installed on vista then use that to copy the files.

This is the cable i have: http://www.bafo.com/...s_bf-7313_F.asp

The same company sell a similar looking cable that can transfer between 2 xp machines' (http://www.bafo.com/...s_bf-7312_F.asp) that implies its pretty much the same cable running with different drivers right?

They have a load of drivers on the support page, ill try using the drivers for the xp cable with mine and report back :)

Thanks

Did you try unstalling the Microsoft Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP on both XP systems? Seems to me that should work. I really don't see why Vista is required. All it says on the web site is that you don't have to install it on Vista because it's already there.
