Hi. I am trying to clean a computer for a friend. The machine was so messed up that AntiVir was popping up so many warning messages that the machine would just lock up. Four days later, the situation is much better, but both IE and Firefox keep getting redirected to various pages and rundll32.exe keeps coming back in task manager after being killed. I now have Adaware, SpyBot, MS AntiSpyware, TDS-3, Spyware Doctor, Spy Subtract, CWShredder, and AVG Antivirus installed and have done multiple scans with all.

I also have Hijack This!, but noticed in the posting instructions to post the AdAware log first, so here goes :tazz:

Any help is appreciated!

Hi there.
Do this;
first, download/install this tool here;
http://www.ccleaner.com/
After installed, open it up and bush the button "Run cleaner".
Then, try these online virus scans here;
- Trend Micro (recommended)
- Panda Activescan
- F-secure

If online scans finds anything, fix/remove the problems.
After cleaned (if they found something),
reboot.
Then, read Logfile Posting Instructions
and post a new log.

Oh, i didn't notice this one..

Hosts file scan result:
»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»
17 entries scanned.

If your system is running a program which changes the hosts file or you have added listings to the hosts file, then there is no need to check further. Otherwise, download the "Host file viewer" by Option^Explicit. It is a 65K program which will allow you to find/view/open/read/edit/restore to default settings your host file. Instructions are on the display screen of the program. Select the option to restore to default settings.

OK, I ran CCleaner and TrendMicro, Panda, and F-secure online scans, rebooted, then ran Ad-aware again. Log is copied below.

I believe the hosts file is being updated by a program I have installed -- they are all entries pointing to 127.0.0.1.

Thanks for your generous help! :tazz:

I ended up doing a complete system re-install. Luckily this is pretty easy on the Presario (just hit F10 at startup and then un-install all the extra crap they put on).

This spyware situation has really gotten out of hand. :tazz:

Thanks for the help, and keep up the good work! ;)
