Spybot S&D listed Smitfraud-C when running a scan, and it could not remove it. After reading thru a few of the posts here about the problems i am having, i downloaded and ran Smitfraudfix V2.315 and that restored my desktop from being the blue screen of death , and killed a lot of the popups. It also let me back into my task manager. I am left however with a few remaining popups and Smitfraud-C no longer appearing in Spybot S&D. The fake windows security alert that cites C:\windows\wml.exe as a problem and prompts to scan, and the popup of "System integrity scan wizard" saying that there are critical errors in the file system and registy and prompts to scan. Also, the small triangle at the bottom right by the clock saying numerous things from the system is being attacked to the system is infected with spyware, and asking me to buy spyware removal programs, and a popup of "Security system protection control panel" saying that I have TrojanDownloader.XS .

Hi there lets go straight for the kill shall we :)

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Well that has cleared some - but, and this is a big but I see no anti-virus and your Java is out of date - so we will fix that first and then progress

JAVA

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement". The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

ANTI-VIRUS

First you have to download an antivirus. This program is basic for the security of your computer and in todays age not having one will probably lead to disaster for your computer.

Please go HERE and download avast! 4 Home Edition to your desktop. Locate the file that you just downloaded, double-click on the file to launch the installation of avast!

Click Next on the avast! Setup window and on the next window with the ReadMe File.
Now you will see the Legal Agreement, just click I agree, and then click Next to continue.

You will be prompted with Configuration window, make sure that you choose Typical configuration and then click Next. Click Next to the windows that will follow, when the installation will finish, you will be given an option to schedule a boot time scan, select No

Now you have to restart your machine, select Restart and then click Finish.

After you restart you will get a message about avast! it will give you the general "Hello and Thank you for choosing our Product." Also after you restart you will notice 2 new icons in the bottom right corner of the screen.

VERY IMPORTANT - after restarting, right click on the a in the taskbar and select Updating, then highlight and click Program.

You will get popup after its done updating. If avast! had to download anything for your computer you may get a message asking you to restart.

After you have updated avast! right click the small icon a in task bar and click Start Avast! AntiVirus

Click Program Registration and you will be taken to their website. Fill out the form and then check you e-mail. Once you get an e-mail from them (usually about 1 minute after submitting the form) copy and paste the serial they provided into the highlighted box. Then click ok.

After this, you will need to Schedule Boot-Time Scan with avast! Click on the little button placed up in the left corner, and select Schedule Boot-Time Scan. Read also this tutorial HERE it may make it easier to you to follow the steps.

Next, choose
  • Scan all local disks
  • scan archive files
  • click on Schedule
On the next dialog Operating system restart needed select Yes
Now avast! will restart your computer and start to scan before Windows fully loads.

IMPORTANT NOTE since your system has infections on it, avast! will give you dialog box with recommended actions, and options, please make sure if this happens, to click the Move to Chest button, and not to delete any reported files.

The boot log will be located here C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\report\AswBoot.txt

Now to clean

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1a8523dc-1dd2-11b2-8f50-a0f5b7cb9b7f} - C:\WINDOWS\yxgjutuf.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vivmbgjs] regsvr32 /u "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\vivmbgjs.dll"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ereikfje] C:\WINDOWS\system32\fijwvcdy.exe
O16 - DPF: {BDEE1959-AB6B-4745-A29B-F492861102CC} -
O23 - Service: MsSecurity Updated (MsSecurity1.209.4) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\winself.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: NVIDIA Display Driver Service (NVSvc) - NVIDIA Corporation - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

THEN

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\yxgjutuf.dll
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\vivmbgjs.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fijwvcdy.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\winself.exe
    Purity
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.

  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

AND FINALLY FOR NOW

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Logs required : ASWBoot.txt, OTMoveit and Combofix

The popups aren't coming up anymore, and it seems slightly faster than it was. I'm not sure if Avast! bogs it down any but i am keeping it running. It can't be as bad as norton was in any case. (which is why i didn't have an anti-virus program, i uninstalled norton because it made my computer so sluggish i couldn't do much with it) :) On to the logs...

Looks good now apart from the booboo I made in the service deletion - I truncated the service name :)

@echo off
sc stop MsSecurity1.209.4
sc delete MsSecurity1.209.4
exit

Next you will need to create the batch fix to do that copy and paste ALL of the above in the quote box to a notepad file.
Then in the text file go to FILE > SAVE AS and in the dropdown box select SAVE AS TYPE to ALL FILES
Then in the FILE NAME box type fix.bat

This will create a batch file Posted Image

Then run fix.bat by double clicking you may see a black box appear this is normal

Two folders that did not want to delete

  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\mgwwgmke
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\hmdajwpe
    Purity
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.

Having done that could you let me know how your system is running now ?

Double click OTMoveIt2. once again and you should see a CleanUp! button, press that button, you may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt2. wants to contact the internet, allow this, a cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will delete all the tools you have downloaded plus itself

Now to get you off to a good start we will re-set your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your your restore point but this is my method:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > System Restore.
2. On the dialogue box that appears select Create a Restore Point
3. Click NEXT
4. Enter a name e.g. Clean
5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:

1. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > System tools > Disk Cleanup.
2. In the Drop down box that appears select your main drive e.g. C
3. Click OK
4. The System will do some calculation and the display a dialogue box with TABS
5. Select the More Options Tab.
6. At the bottom will be a system restore box with a CLEANUP button click this
7. Accept the Warning and select OK again, the program will close and you are done

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free program: It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
