Every time I start my laptop I get a warning message informing me that the power adapter has not been recognised so my laptop won't charge and will run slower. It still provides power to the computer though.

The only thing is, its the original adapter which I got with the laptop, absolutely nothing has changed!

Any thoughts?

Well it could be the plugin is damaged or maybe the power supply unit itself or the cord from the power supply unit...

Power supplies for laptops to go out from time to time. See if it is something covered under the warranty that came with your laptop.

Did you ever have the adapter plugged into a power socket that was not protected (by power surges or spikes, that is)? It could be that a power spike damaged it.
