Questions After Recent Malware Removal [RESOLVED]

Hello! I recently had some malware issues. My background was blue and said something along the lines of "Warning: Spyware has been detected on your PC." I received pop-ups from Windows Security Center and pop-ups directing me to a website to by anti-spyware programs. I also had a message in the lower right hand corner from a yellow triangle also telling me I had spyware that had to be removed. I could not access my task manager. After running spybot and malwarebytes, the problem seems to have gone away. The computer seems a little slower (probably due to the new software I had to download to get rid of the malware.)

However, I have several questions.

1. Is there anyway for me to know if all the malware has completely gone away? I am still nervous that there is some reminants of it left on my computer.

2. Is it okay for me to send microsoft word files to another pc for storage or could they possibly transfer malware?

3. What should I do now after facing malware? Is there something I can do to make sure it doesn't come back?

I haven't spoken to anybody about the spyware problem yet. I just downloaded programs that I saw some suggested as helpful. Should I post my hijackthis log? Here it is:

Looks fine

Go to this site:
http://www.virustotal.com/
On top you'll find 'Browse'
Click the browse button and browse to the file:

D:\setup.exe

Click open.
Then click the 'Send' button next to it.
This will scan the file. Please be patient.
Once scanned, copy and paste the results as well in your next reply.

I typed D:\setup.exe into "Open" after clicking browse. It said that the path did not exist. I tried to find it by going to D: but it said that there was no disc inserted.

I don't see any visible problems.

Few things

Your using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your pc open to vulnerabilities, you can update it here :

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:
SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
