I was attacked by the trojan virus through a website. I ran the Norton Anti-virus disk and I found 12 harmful files/viruses which I deleted. I deleted the harmful files in the quarantine area as well. When I turn on the computer and log in, I only see the ocean scene which is displayed with Windows XP. There are no desktop icons nor start menu. I was able to access the internet by going through the Windows Task Manager by pushing ctrl alt del. I have booted and nothing has happened and there is no control panel to speak of in my Windows Task Manager. Can somebody give me some advice? thank you!

Try working through the malware guide at http://www.geekstogo..._Log-t2852.html

at the top of this forum, where it says "start here".

If you still have trouble, post a hijack this log in the malware forum:
