I have been hijacked by a site called safenavweb.com and other endless sights trying to sell me software I.E spyware removal. some of the names or I.E defender, fake alerts from windows and a yellow triangle in my lower right corner. I am able to connect to the web somewhat, but have to fight constantly as im switched from one page to the next. I have used spybot and ad aware 2007 free version, which removes some infections, but I am not able to delete the infection which is hijacking my system. I have version 1.99 of hijack this, is there a newer version available , and if so where can I download it.

Any help would be deeply appreciated, since I just lost my job and dont have alot of cash to spend on my system.

thanks,
duckhunter.

Hi,
Welcome to the site

I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. Please give me some time to look it over and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

I want you to show hidden files. There are instructions HERE to help you do this.
You should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Some of the instructions I give may need to be printed or saved for reference during the fix. Some of the fix will be done in Safe Mode so you will be unable to access this thread at that time.
Please dont use any of the tools without specific instructions. Some of them are dangerous (and could leave your computer in worse condition that it is when infected) if used incorrectly.
These instuctions should be read first, then followed. If you do not understand something, don't be afraid to ask, or see if I'm on chat. :)

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Hi sarah, thanks for the help its much apreciated. I open hidden files, unchecked protected operating systems. then ran dss. Only one log popped up though and that was the main.txt log. did I miss something? I am posting the main text anyway. it may be of some help to you. please let me know if I need to do anything differently and once again thank.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Hi, did you add these:
NameServer = 208.67.220.220,208.67.222.222
do you know what they are?

Also, did you remove any entries in Hijack This?
Your first log looks different from your last log, there is alot of things missing.

Can you please tell me what security products you are using?
Anti-Virus
Firewall
And any others.

Hi
one possible reason my first log looks different is the fact that I have used spybot search and destroy. also ad aware 2007 free version. I will run combofix and hijack this and post the logs.
as for as the name server numbers, I havent got a clue.

Please click HERE and download a free Anti Virus. I recommend Avast! as it is easy to use and not heavy on system resources. Ater you have installed an Anti Virus, run a full system scan.
Post back with a fresh Hijack This log and we can continue to remove the malware.

I can't see anything in your log about an Anti Virus. It should turn on when you turn on your computer, and it is not.
In fact, it looks like nothing is.

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
  • Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
  • Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post
