i stumped google =( ptshyprl.dll<----? [RESOLVED]

hello everyone =D and TIA to all who reply to help me find out what this is, cause its driving me nuts =D

i have this trojan (ptshyprl.dll) that keeps appearing in my temp folder and symantec finds it every time it creates itself but i cannot find the source of the problem :) i have included my hijack this log in hopes someone can help me fig out whats up. i also have used combofix and otscanit and just about every AS and AV out ther ... also when i go to task manager i can see two iexplorer.exe running .. running 15,000 a piece in mem usage... i can stop one and they both terminate and if i go idle internet explorer will take for ever to load up ... this is so strange lol :)

Lets run this first:
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Next:
Before running a new scan let's clean out the temporary folders.

Download ATF Cleaner to your Desktop.

  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser, do this also:
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browser, do this also:
  • Click Opera at the top and choose Select All from the list.
  • Close ALL Internet browsers (very important).
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
  • NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Now download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.

Note: You must be logged on to the system with an account that has Administrator privileges to run this program.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanIt folder and double-click on OTScanIt.exe to start the program (if you are running on Vista then right-click the program and choose Run as Administrator).
  • In the Drivers section click on Non-Microsoft.
  • Under Additional Scans click the checkboxes in front of the following items to select them:
    • Reg - BotCheck
      File - Additional Folder Scans
  • Do not change any other settings.
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Use the Add Reply button and Copy/Paste the information back here. I will review it when it comes in. Make sure that the first line is code with brackets around it [] and that the last line is /code with brackets around it [].

If, after posting, the last line is not <End of Report> then the log is too big to fit into a single post and you will need to split it into multiple posts or attach it as a file.

ran vundo fix (i had a older version then that one) but found nothing. atf is awsome and i use that constantly.
here is the otscanit log.

EDIT i just ran catchme.exe and my AV stopped the ptshyprl.dll from dropin into the temp folder. this thing does not like me lol

Allright Snowblind,
You have a backdoor issue there, lets see what this will catch:
Download ComboFix from one of the locations below, and save it to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Next:
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.


Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Lets try this:
Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    ptshyprl.dll
  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Give me the results from that please :)

File/Folder ptshyprl.dll not found.

OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.4.1 log created on 04272008_153612

problem is, the file ptshyprl.dll gets created in my temp folder and is deleted everytime by atf/ccleaner or caught by my AV (symantec corp 10) the only reason i know i have a problems cause of the slow responces from windows (trying to open ie after idle take up to 30 sec sometimes more) and the multiple iexplorer.exe running in my processes. im sure there is something creating this booger and nothing i seem to run seems to find the source :)

f and g are just storage home movies and pictures and software backups.
i have scanned all of them as well with no result :)
i might just have to format and reinstall everything :)

Hey Snowblind, there are a couple of more things we can try before you nuke the machine.

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Open ADS Spy.."
  • Click on "Scan"
  • Click on "Save Log..."
  • Copy and past the List from the notepad into your next post

And I remember a long time ago there was a Vundo variant that would hide all the 02 and 020 lines, so lets rename Hijack to Harryjack.exe
Run it after renaming and lets see the log from that.

also i now get this windows registry revorery window that pops up b4 i log into windows that will stay with me untill i close it even after i log into windows ... wierd :)

Hey Snowblind,
I can't read the text in that screen shot, and I think this is going to get very interesting. In your HJT log the IE version is not able to be read, possibly indicating a problem there (as we already thought). Smitfraud should have shown a problem but it is still hidden.

More scans:
Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Accept

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

FYI explorer version is 8 ( beta testing ) i will roll back to ie 7 if u tink that would help?
also when u click the link of the pic just click the picture again it will enlarge :)
and i will get on the new scans and logs in hopes to find this bugga.

FYI my AV wouldnt stop scanning my computer :) so i had to uninstall it ...
off to try new and improved things lol
