Hi,
I am hoping someone might be able to help me.

when i click on icons or try to change things on my control panel
i get a message that says
C:\windows\explorer.EXE application not found.
and
C:\windows\rundll32.exe application not found
and
also when i try to run things such as aol and other .EXE programs
it will ask what program i want to open it with.

about 4 weeks ago i got some kind of virus and ran spy sweeper
which i belive got rid of most of the problems, but now i am left with
this problem.

any help or advice someone could give me i would really appreciate it
i have a feeling this is a bad problem, im just hoping there may be a solution.
Thank you so much

Hello kastal...

A lot of times this problem is malware related. If we can get the exe file associations fixed for you, I'd suggest strongly that you post a HiJackThis log in the Malware Forum so an expert can look it over.

Download the attached file and save it to your desktop. Right click the downloaded file and choose "Extract All"...extract it to your desktop. Right click on the extracted file and choose "Merge"...accept the change.

Reboot and try your executables...

Because all these symptoms can be caused by malware, I would suggest you start by letting our experts have a look at the problem first off.

Please go to the Malware Forum and follow the instructions you'll find there.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- post a hijackthis log in THAT forum. Do Not reply to or "bump" your own topic...if it shows a reply, it may be overlooked as one that is being worked on.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
