Hi all! :)
I've been trying to help my Dad with his computer.
In the process of Removing Programs in WINDOWS XP...
we encountered a huge BLOCK OF BLACK SPACE beginning after the first few programs
listed and going waaaaaay down to the last half inch on the scroll bar...where the majority of
his programs were listed.
This was discovered in the throws of prepping the computer for a HT log and post.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this...??? :)
Can you hazard a guess as to what is causing it???
Could Windows XP be corrupt beyond viruses? :)
Would a re-install of Windows XP, be of any use?

He has a POST in for Generic Trojan Malware help, Posted April 28, around 5:30am...
but has not heard back from a Geek yet.

I am now long distance from him and want to continue to assist as much as I can.

He needs his computer for business, so time is of the essence.
Thx...we appreciate any thoughts. :)

P.S.
Again, I don't have the computer here...
but my Dad is Member: MEGALENE11, if anyone can get to him soon. He is a brand new member...thanks to me! :)
We will move his HT post to the waiting room, if no word by tomorrow.

Ciao for now!

Try to restore the system to a date before the problem started. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Choose to restore the computer to an earlier time and follow the instructions.

Good Morning...Skeptic,
and thanks for the speedy reply!

This problem is on my Dad's computer, in the U.S.---
I'm now in Ontario, Canada.

We spent a few days preparing his computer for his post as MEGALENE11...(New Apr. 28).

***********************************************************************

Will another SYSTEM RESTORE to earlier time...interfere with the New System Restore Point we CREATED--- in prep. for his first TROJAN/HT Log POST?

Don't wanna undo anything we've done to proceed....

Thx.
Rainey :)

If you created a new restore point but kept the old ones, then there is no reason why they should interfere one with the other. BUT, if you plan to post in the malware forum then go ahead and don't do anything before the malware experts declare the computer clean.

Thank you, Skeptic,
I will pass that info. along.

He just got his Geek today...after I asked you this...
I told him to hold off and let his assigned expert address at appropriate time.

Thanks again...HAVE A GOOD ONE!

For the blank space in Add or Remove Programs, see here: http://www.annoyance...xp/1174324396?s

I don't think there would be a problem with fixing this while waiting for the malware folks.
