Hi,

This is my daughters computer. Symantec has quarantined some Adware.Lop things. I have uninstalled Limewire and Bit-torrent( or something "torrent")and have scanned with many of the recommended scans. Deleted a few dodgy looking files and as much of the music she's downloaded that I can find.

I'm sure there's still nasty stuff there. I've encountered names like.. third lies itch ford, Draw Roam Mix\woimvaue.exe, Close lies, but I don't really know what to do. I feel like I'm going around in circles.

Haven't had any CiD browsers open up today but every time I try to mooch about in C:\Documents and Settings\user.... I get constant windows like pop-ups asking to sign into Windows Live ID.

Some help would be appreciated!

Here's the Hijack this log.

Hello

Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Open the OTScanIt folder and double-click on OTScanIt.exe to start the program.
  • Under Additional Scans check the boxes beside Reg - Bot Check, Reg - Desktop Components, Reg - Disabled MS Config Items, Reg Mountpoints2 File Additional Folder Scans, File - Lop Check, and File - Purity Scan.
  • Under Drivers change it to Non-Microsoft.
  • Under Files Created Within and Files Modified Within change it to 90 days.
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Use the Add Reply button and post the information back here in an attachment. I will review it when it comes in. The last line is < End of Report >, so make sure that is the last line in the attached report.

Make sure you attach the report in your reply. If it is too big to upload, then zip the text file and upload it that way

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Hi there,
While the MBAM scan was running Symantec popped up with Adware.Lop in the following:

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{26FE44AA-84D1-42B4-8CD2-CDD1750E1EC7}\RP150

I don't know if I did the right thing, but I ignored it because I thought it would restart the computer and end the scan.
There are lots of similar entires in Symantec quarantine but I struggle with Symantec. I find it really difficult to understand.

Anyway here's OT Moveit log

Couldn't find extra.txt

My other concern is that my daughter has used the data traveller to move files from this computer to the laptop and I have used it to get photos on and off my imac. I think one of the problem downloads was a "busted" mp3 (doesn't get her taste in music from me.) which I know she moved from this computer to the laptop. She also opened a flickr/yahoo account- now closed. My husband only uses the laptop, mainly to check his work email. About a week ago he received an email to his work email inviting him to look at photos on flickr, but it didn't look like it was from flickr. It was very basic. BUT it said HI then his password , NOT his name. He changed his password on another computer and has had no further problems. When I looked at the flickr account( not from the link) there was a friend on the page called by his(my husbands) password then his first name with no uploads or info. I've done scans on the laptop which ended up looking ok but I'm no expert.. Should I post another topic or can it be dealt with in this one.

Sorry about the ramble,it's late here and I'm tired.

Just to remind you the data traveller has the following on it:

Knight.exe
ntde1ect.com
usdeiect.com
autorun.inf

Again thanks for all the help you are giving me.

Forgot to tell you, no more windows live pop ups, no browsers opening to strange websites. I'll keep an eye on it more in the morning. It's still quite slow but then again it's pretty ancient. Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear!

Busted eh, not my type of music either :)

Yes I better take a look at the laptop, seems you have a flash drive infection. Do this on this PC and the laptop to prevent the USB key infecting you

  • 1 - Flash Drive Disinfector
Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from >here< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Also post me a DSS log from the laptop

Hi again,

Here are the DSS logs from the laptop.
I haven't ran the flash disinfector yet as I'm waiting for daughter to come home from school with phone.
Will it affect cameras and ipods too?
