Hello,

First I'll just let you know that I don't have a lot of computer knowledge. The extent of it is what I have learned from this website (which I thank you all for, I would rather know a little then none at all).

The issue that I am having is for the past week and half or so I have been having issues with my internet (I use Mozilla Firefox). It times out ("the connection to the server has been reset") and takes a long time to load pages. It was timing out so badly that I couldn't even use the internet for hours on end, and then all of a sudden it would work beautifully. I have contacted my internet provider and everything from their end is going fine. I will admit, when it was doing that I didn't have an anti-virus software on my computer (I know, really big mistake on my part!). I recently updated my Trend micro and ran it, which quarantined 6 files. Now that I have added that again and also ran MalwarebytesAntiMalware, it is just taking a long time to load pages. For the most part, it acts up when I am trying to login to a website, such as Myspace, Facebook, Hotmail, even my bank account. It will load other pages, such as ebay and let me browse for about 2 minutes before it starts taking forever to load a new page. It seems to be o.k. when I am on this website, though.

Another issue I am having is that I am trying to active my subscription with Trend Micro, but when I click on "not activated yet" next to the subscription heading, I get an error that reads "Unable to contact Trend Micro Please reconnect this computer to the Internet immediately to activate your software. If you can successfully open Web sites and receive email but still received this warning, then scheduled Trend Micro server maintenance has prevented you from activating Trend Micro AntiVirus. Please wait forty-five minutes before trying again. "

I tried after 45 minutes and then after another 45 minutes, and it's still not allowing to me update. I restarted my computer and that didn't help.

Hi,

* Please download FixwareOut from the following site:
http://download.blee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it, but allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Hi!

Wow, I wasn't expecting a response that quickly. Thank you so much!

O.k., so I did what you said and ran and installed FixwareOut. The log is as follows:

Also, when my computer rebooted, I got message from Windows stating that "The system has recovered from a serious error." Here is the information that I could find from that:

C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER~1.YOU\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERcc4f.dir00\Mini022908-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER~1.YOU\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERcc4f.dir00\sysdata.xml

I'm not sure if that is relevant or not, but thought I'd throw it in there just in case it helps.

Hi,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Did you purchase Spysweeper? If not, uninstall it.

Let me know how things are now.

Hi,

I did everything as you said and am happy to report that my internet seems to be strolling right along now. It's not timing out anymore, and it's loading pages as quickly as it did before.

I have also since been able to connect with Trend Micro and have finished subscribing.

I can't thank you enough for your help!

Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

Glad I could help. :)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.
And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.
Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
