The Samsung are SATA drives. Newer technology, faster interface, much smaller cables for improved air flow. The WD are very good drives, but Parallel ATA.

While the performance difference isn't much, it ensures future compatability, and also you notice more of a difference using RAID0 (not mentioned in the article).
