Hey :)

Sorry for delay.
Been back & forth to hospital since last night.
I have pneumonia so not feeling well. :)

having a look-see at your logs now. :)

In regards to the beemer's page for services config...
Quite the tweaks...
Several of the ones they list to disable I would preferr to have on manual. Simply because if windows needs it or another program needs it -- the service should start. (in most cases)
The ones I had you reset -- were default like that from my xp sp2 machine (fresh install)
Can't understand this encryption error you are getting unless there is still something going on I don't see yet.

Next time you see the "encryption" error --- grab a screenshot of it & post it?

Hi,

Those files that could not be defragged is normal.
Some files windows has in use and locked exclusively to itself.

Open Hijackthis
Click "config"
Click "misc tools"
Click "open hosts file manager" (if you get security warning from SAS or Mcafee please allow)
Click "open in notepad"
SAve it someplace and attach it here.

Simply exit the notepad to close hosts file.

Thanks :)

Thanks. :)

That file don't look out of the ordinary. Spybot's Host file.
Hosts file can slow down some systems. (although yours isn't too big)..
You can try this to see if any improvement:

Open services.msc
Scroll down to DNS Client
Set the service to manual and OK your way out.
After reboot --- try IE & FF.
Still SNF? Load quicker?

One other thing we can fix while working...
XP has trouble cleaning up user's registry hives during shut down.
They have released a patch for this a while back.
Suggest to install it:

http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en

Need to validate windows before you get the download (requires ActiveX install)

This should eliminate the "userenv" errors you see in eventvwr.

Do you have a router and have you made any recent changes to it?
If you have a router --- do you have the most recent firmware installed?

Thanks :)

still having SNF trouble. More often, but lasts only seconds. Refresh works first time (mostly) for now.

Hi,

Have you applied the patch I linked you to and set DNS Client service to manual?

I'd like to see another log please.

Download this file and save it.
http://ftp.officefiv...startuplist.zip
Unzip it. It needs to be unzipped to work.

Double click "startuplist.exe" and wait till scan is done.
You should see "ready" at bottom when it is done.

Click "file" then "save as..."
Give it a name (.txt) and attach the file here.
Don't try to post it please --- too big.
Attaching is fine.

Thanks

Huh?

DNS Client service setting being changed to Manual has nothing to do with router...
If you have a large hosts file and DNS Client is automatic --- often slows browsing alot -- enough to time out sometimes.
Don't disable it or we'll break internet. Manual however normally works fine.
If that don't fix problem -- we just need to keep diggin.

I won't stop till you do. :)

Question ..
When this NSF occurs..
Is it immediate or takes a few min for browser to time out?
What's your ping times like? Say when you ping google.com?

Grrrrr!!

My bad -- that startuplist link was the wrong one. I didnt realize he took down half the mirrored files.

Try this one:

http://download.blee...startuplist.zip

Same isntructions as before.
Log should be quite large. (over 100kb)

Thanks :)

Note**

If you get this message at end of scan (or similar):

Skipping Zones for this user, since there are over 1000 domains in them. (3231 to be exact)

Use the Options menu to override skipped items.
Click Help > Show warnings to close this message.

Ignore it and just save the log. It will be because of hosts file.

Hi,

Can you see if you can get Kaspersky online scanner to run again please?

First check in add/remove programs to see if Kaspersky online scanner is listed & uninstall it if it is.

Then..... Must use IE!

Using Internet Explorer please do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click "I accept"

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
      • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save report button.
  • Call it Kaspersky.txt
  • Expand the arrow beside "file types" and save as .txt file.
    http://i266.photobuc...Kas-Savetxt.gif
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.

*Note2
If you have Internet Explorer 7 installed:
If you have trouble getting past the initial download you may need to use the "zoom" tool at bottom right of the scanner window and decrease it to 75% to see and press the "accept" button.
Page will reload and you should be able to carry on scan.

Question....
These SNF messages...
Do you have to open a browser for this to happen or does browser open by itself and display SNF message?

Also would like to try this:

Boot to SAFE mode (your account)
Run dss.exe again to get the log.
(don't worry about the warning you get --- app is just complaining cus it cant make a restore point in safe mode)

Once scan is done -- boot back up to normal mode and post this log:

C:\deckard\system scanner\main.txt

Thanks :)
