I am using a Sony Vaio VGN-CR120E Notebook Computer Running Windows Vista Ultimate. This computer runs a 1.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2Gb Ram and 160Gb Hard Drive.

Every time i turn on my computer, it takes longer and longer to load up. I keep getting a notification from Norton Antivirus 2008 that there is a trojan on my computer. the notification says "Trojan.Vundo detected by auto-protect". I also keep getting notifications from spybot to accept or decline new registry entries. Also, every time i open up internet explorer, i keep getting extra tabs open up and pop-up windows all over.

My Hijack This Log is as follows:

Thank you so much for looking at my log. any help would be appreciated. it seems as if i took care of the trojan problem, but i still keep getting the registry change alerts from spybot, and internet explorer keeps opening up pop-ups and new, unwanted tabs.

The steps that I am about to suggest involve modifying the registry. Modfying the registry can be dangerous so we will make a backup of the registry first.
Modification of the registry can be EXTREMELY dangerous if you do not know exactly what you are doing so follow the steps that are listed below EXACTLY. if you cannot perform some of these steps or if you have ANY questions please ask BEFORE proceeding.

Backing Up Your Registry
  • Go Here and download ERUNT
(ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) is a free program that allows you to keep a complete backup of your registry and restore it when needed.)
  • Install ERUNT by following the prompts
(use the default install settings but say no to the portion that asks you to add ERUNT to the start-up folder, if you like you can enable this option later)
  • Start ERUNT
(either by double clicking on the desktop icon or choosing to start the program at the end of the setup)
  • Choose a location for the backup
(the default location is C:\WINDOWS\ERDNT which is acceptable).
  • Make sure that at least the first two check boxes are ticked
  • Press OK
  • Press YES to create the folder.

For detailed instruction on how to back-up registry via ERUNT, please visit HERE

  00

Save it in desktop as Fix.reg and in Save as type: choose All Files

A new registry file will then created on your desktop. It should look like this: Posted Image

Hello Steve M.,

What happened to your computer is unfortunate, but please keep in mind that everyone here is a volunteer and does not get paid for any work done in these forums. We would have been happy to try and get your computer back up and running again, but you don't need to be rude here, we've all been without a computer before and know how frustrating it can be.

Since you have already begun the process of re-installing your operaing system, there isn't much more we can do here. As such, I'm going to go ahead and close this topic now. If you would like any further help, feel free to post in the appropriate Windows/Hardware forum that would be applicable.
