I'm not to geeky, sadly enough (working on it! :tazz: ) so this is purely about the aestethics:
It seems your tables are lower on all but the "main" page, resulting in the friendship.jpg to interfere with the star-pic.

Otherwise - nice job ;)

Maybe It's just me - but I cannot see the site at all - the pictures don't download at all in either Firefox of IE 6 and when you click the image on the index page which is presumably a link the page shimmers.......................... nasty!!!!!! Sorry I can't be of help but I can't see the site at all!!!!!!

Nope!!! - absolutely not!!!! I tried again and also checked out both opera and netscape............ cannot see a thing, and once again get that horrible shimmering when you click the link on the index page(not sure that that's intentional but that kind of thing turns me off viewing sites as it often means something more sinister lurks below!!!)........................ so unless there's something nasty attached to the site I have to assume its a remote server issue(that's a possility as I had some strange happenings on the macromedia site yet again last week where I could not see half the links on my account and a strange absence of flash movie content - they assured me that everything was fine on their local remote (I believe it's someplace in California).....

For the record I'm in Venezuela and have tried two separate connections to look at this particular site and well.... it simply aint happening!!!!!!

I can't offer any suggestions as to why not!!!!!!

Right clicking on the image holder on the index page in Firefow I get this:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /intro1.jpg on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.phigammadelta.net Port 80

Looks like your ISP has restricted your site!!!!!!

About the frat page -

all pic's are easily visible here at my end (mozilla at the moment) -
BUT
upon clicking the pic on the entry page, the window resizes, and keeps that way unless I maximized it.
Really annoying, as it doesn't make any sense.
Can you have put in a resize window-function, that somehow messes with Blackbeards, and others most probably, access?

Hehe, this is a good reminder for me to have different people browse my websites, especially when I throw in javascripts!

So - here's my page - I use a DynamicDrive pop-up javascript on the "pictures" page!

Reported bugs will be *greatly* appreciated!
(Mainly made with Dreamweaver, and some Mozilla Composer, which I think is easier on the tables!)

Just had a thought about this.............. was the frat site by any chance designed in Front Page and does it employ active x components???????

In one or two of my sites I had fade transitions etc attached to images using active X and javascript....but normally there would be a place holder in those cases for Netscape in which that kind of content could not be viewes.............

I would positively steer clear of Active X as it's really unfriendly to your audience and most current browsers are blocking Active X content by default nowadays anyway.

My skin shivers and the hair stands up on the back of my neck when I consider that people actually do design websites with Front Page and employ such user-unfriendly technologies as Active X in a web site..............................

All that said, I've still no idea why this site doesn't display at all in my browsers...... There's no alt tag info for the photos for example and even clicking the link page all I can see are table structures with image placeholders and no text....... (This is also something like you might see if you designed a page in Fireworks and saved it as a html page without having te slices properly linked to its component slice images.......... I doubt this is the case as Kat for one can see the content................. For that reason I have to go with my earlier suspicion that your ISP has restrictions in place on its server that is preventing the likes of people like myself (living in venezuela) from browsing it and therefore being able to advise on it..........................

Btw. No problems viewing your site whatsoever Kat......................... Interested in having a look at that script of yours if it's public domain!!!! I went for something a bit different myself (Tree Structure rather than thumbs) due to the amount of content involved and the fact that I, like you wantend to keep the galleries contained within one page. By doing this you conserve a lot of bandwidth!!!! I guess in this case Flash was the most viable solution......

Have a good un you guys and catch y'all soon

Front Page - uh, being an ex-Mac'er I have a built-in suspicion to everything Microsoft :cheers:
Without having actually checked FP out, I'm thinking Mozilla's Composer would be just as easy, and a lot more trustworthy! I know I personally would never have gotten anywhere without it when I first started out; being hopeless at coding, the WYSIWYGs are very much godsent!

employ active x components???????
That's equivalent to Chinese on my part, so no comment there ;)
Oh, and I DID actually make my entrance-page with Fireworks, just like you said, but apparently no prob there.

Interested in having a look at that script of yours if it's public domain!!!!
I left all the text that came with the code in the page source, so you'll easily find it there.
Dynamic Drive is my main javascript source - I'm still very much a beginner at that though, I'm currently toiling with getting two different script to agree side-by-side on another site... DD has great tutorials though, so I'll read up on the matter there when I have the time...
Looking through their image scripts, I *think* this is what I used... I really like that the full-size pop-ups are draggable. AND it was fairly easy to modify the script to my liking, even for a novice!
My only grief is that I couldn't center the full-size pop-up images! But that may veeeery well being my lack of skills/experience!

For other image displays with more pic's I'm very partial to using the Photoshop generated slideshows, such as this, very nice & easy to edit background etc.
Uses frames tho'. Which some people claims to be sent by the devil :cheers:

Flash... Hmm yes, I've been thinking about that a lot lately, but I'm afraid it'll be a [bleep] for my friends with dial-up!

Thanks for checking my site - I'll definitly have a peak at yours when I'm not swamped with work, would be fun to see how you display your pic's!

andrebg, I hope you'll get someone more apt than myself to go over your source! It sucks to have put a lot of work into something that ends up not coming out right.
(First thing *I* would do is remove whatever is resizing the window, maybe you have a "bug" there... Ah, what do I know...! :thumbsup: )

Uhm - what-the-heck is this?

<!-- Begin

function shake(n) {

if (self.moveBy) {

for (i = 10; i > 0; i--) {

for (j = n; j > 0; j--) {

self.moveBy(0,i);

self.moveBy(i,0);

self.moveBy(0,-i);

self.moveBy(-i,0);

}

}

}

}

// End -->

And then this: (I put in some extra symbols/- to stop the htmls...)
<-p-><a -href="main.html" target="_self"><img src="intro1.jpg" width="355" height="530" border="0" onClick="shake(2)" value="Shake Screen"></-a-></-p->

Maybe something that works in IE but f***s with other browsers; it certainly didn't do anything but an annoying resizing with mozilla/firefox!
(Wrong - I re-checked, it DID do a super-quick "shiver 'n shake"...
Y'know, I'm thinking you'd be better off loosing that script, as it is way more annoying than entertaining!
I try to resist cluttering up my sites with nifty scripts myself, having resently discovered the amazing world of javascripts... I try to repeat the mantra "userfriendliness before niftyness"! :no: )

Oooooh - I just noticed another design-faux-pas!!!
You've placed your "designed by..." on top of the background image's "designed by..."! BAD! :woot:

OK - I looked at your source again, and I'm thinking maybe you've made matters more difficult for yourself by applying so many layers?
I could very well be wrong, but it seems to me it'd be much more manageable if you used fewer layers, maybe even just 1, and had most/all contents in tables!
That should fix the problem with one jpg overlapping the other, at least!

Heh, I'll try to shut up now. :tazz:

Thanks for the tip kat - discovered the Dynamic Drive site last night just from the info in your original post and was not surprised to see Mike McGrath associated with same............

He's been round a few years and writeen one or two great little starter books in many technologies both Client side and server side................

I would agree with you on things like composer (though netscape does things a lot differently - including renaming some html tags - iFrames for example............), Even Notepad is a great tool if you happen to no the language............. but I actually started out with frontpage and it was the biggest heap of C*** I have ever come accross favouring the far more powerful and reliable Dreamweaver which is in a class of its own where it comes to WYSIWYG editors........... not to mention plug ins etc......

I see you dissected the code on the frat side - would have done so myself if I had a little more time on my hands...................... Uurghhhh!!!! Scary stuff : function shake >> does that serve a purpose???? - I think thats what I was talking about from the visual end of things....................... a horrible "no, no" in my book!!! Layers I steer totally clear of as they are inconsistent cross-browser...................... and well I have to agree with you on the designed by comment also................... sad to say I still cannot lend my own opinion as I'm literally in the dark other that what I mentioned previously!!!

I don't like to bee too critical or helpful without at least having some of the data to hand...........but that shake thing - not good!!!!!
