Internet Explorer Version?

I have a laptop with the Windows Vista Home Premium OS, which is suppose to have Internet Explore 7 already installed...

When I attempt to close Internet explorer using either the file exit option or with the red X in the upper right hand corner... Internet Explorer stops working and indicates that Windows is trying to resolve the problem, and sometimes either restarts Internet Explorer or offers you an option to close the program...

Sometimes this needs to be done 2 or 3 times until you can actually close Internet Explorer.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and discovered or found the solution?

Thank you in advance, Ken
