Windows Vista Media Center malfunction

I have a hp desktop and whenever I try to use media center to play a dvd it states that the dvd decoder malfunctioned or is not installed. The media center worked when I bought it and for awhile it would work on on user but not my user profile. I have contacted hp 3 times they walked me through trying to fix it and it didn't work. I use my computer as entertainment since the monitor is so large! Please help me if you can....
