For example, any modern machine taking five minutes to boot has something wrong. Suggestions seem to be limited to running various scans for virus. This is like saying every car that won't start is out of gas.
where are the answers?

Actually, its one of many things that can be tried. We are not at your computer, we cannot see your computer. We can only check things through you, and troubleshooting is a process of elimination. Its fairly easy to rule out virus/malware as the cause of a problem. However its a necessary step that needs to be eliminated from the possibilities.
Also, following the directions for Malware Removal help gives the tech helper a list of everything running on your computer. Your problem may not be Malware specifically, but you might have a ton of useless junk running at startup. From the logs created during Malware Removal, we can see that.
Slow startup and slow computer is such a difficult thing to diagnose, we have to take things in stride. Each computer is different, each user is different. Searching for something as ambiguous as "slow computer" will likely not help you. I recommend you make a post with your specific symptoms in the correct forum and wait to be assisted by someone.
