i recently got myself a new computer. its a 3Ghz core 2 duo with 4 Gb or ram and an 512 mb 8800 GTS overclocked. all the games i run work fine except gears of war. at highest graphics settings the game lags alot. when i checked out my task manager under processes while the game was running it seems that the game was only using about 600mb worth of memory in contrast to the 1000 mb and above games like company of heroes and bioshock uses. i've got no apps running in the background so why does this happen only to gears of war? anyone can help me to solve this problem? thanks.

maybe its your graphics card not being able to cope with the high speed rendering needed for online play or normal play, i'm not an expert but you know, its happened to me.

if its lagging at the highest setting, then try backing it off to the next lower setting and see how it performs.

Have you patched Gears to the latest version?
