This has been confusing for some time now...

I have bought an HP All-in-one Printer with the idea of having a wireless printer available on all computers on my Network. I have it working on two of my PCs but for some reason the third PC can't find the printer. The reason I'm so confused is that it will work fine on the Laptop I have which is basically the same as my desktop computer. Does anyone know why this would be? And how to rectify this problem?

Thanks

Phil

Hello,
This issue is usually caused by an incorrect driver for the printer.
However it sounds like the third computer does not see the printer.
This could be a firewall or permissions issue.
Is the printer hardwired to one of the computers?
Please read this.
You will have to scroll down to the section on wireless printers, but the whole article is very informitive.

The Printer is not hard wired to any computer all computers are accessing it wirelessly. I'm using the same firewall on the Laptop that can find it. I can't install the driver properly because the setup requires the computer to see the printer and it is this point when the third computer fails.

I am thinking that the third computer is not set up as part of the work group.
Did you make sure that the work group name is the same for all three machines?
What operating systems are you using?

And it is the XP machine that will not print?
If it is the Vista machine than
  • Please open control panel.
  • Open network and sharing.
  • Turn on network discovery.
This will allow the machine to "see" the network.

Do you have an IP assigned to the printer or are the other computers connecting to the printer through the printer name? If it's connecting with IP, can you type that IP into a web browser on the computer not finding the printer and what does it return? If it's connecting with the printer name, open the Run command and type \\<printer_name> and see if it can connect to the printer that way.
