Hello I am new to the site and I recently was infected with antispy spider and was told to try this site.

Originally this had constant pop ups, changed by background to a red screen leading me to buy a false spyware protection program, and also I had constant pop ups saying my system was infected and lead me to that antispy spider page. After taking some tips I have seemed to take care of some problems, but I still cannot access my ctrl-alt-delete I will get a task manager message saying "task manager has been disabled by your administrator." I appolgize in advance for being new at this and let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Hi wrs143,

Welcome to Geeks to Go!
My name is sage5, and I will be helping you with this problem.

Please print these instructions, and have the hard copy handy, to complete the steps below.

Please download the following & save to your Desktop:
Deckard's System Scanner
OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.

Next, Spy Sweeper may interfere with this removal, so I think you should disable it during this fix.

To disable SpySweeper Shields
  • Open SpySweeper.
  • Click Shield Settings on the right
(or Shields on the left, depending what screen you're on).
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Hosts File and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Close SpySweeper.

The real time protection used by programs like Windows Defender can interfere with malware cleaning procedures.
Please follow the steps below to temporarily disable Windows Defender
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools
  • Click General Settings
  • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
  • Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
  • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
  • Close Windows Defender
Once your system has been deemed free from malware, you can re-enable Windows Defender's Real Time Protection.

Run HijackThis.
  • Click the Do a system scan only button.
  • Check the boxes for the all the entries listed below:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C7BBC1FA-E415-4926-9A47-9AB58D0B3BC8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\urqNEVMd.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: urqNEVMd - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\urqNEVMd.dll

  • Now close all windows other than HijackThis and click Fix Checked.
  • Close HijackThis.

Run OTMoveIt2:
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\urqNEVMd.dll
  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste list of Files/Folders to be moved" window (under the Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Make sure that there is a tick next to Unregister Dll's and OCX's
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Open Notepad
  • Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy).
  • Paste the text into the Notepad file, click in the window and press Ctrl + V.
  • Click "Exit" to close OTMoveIt.
  • Save the text file as C:\otmove.txt
(If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.)

Run Deckard's System Scanner:
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double click on the dss.exe file on your Desktop and follow the prompts.
  • Scans will run, and 2 text files will open in Notepad.
  • Close both of the text files.
These files are C:\Deckard\System Scanner\main.txt & extra.txt.
I will need you to copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of
  • main.txt
  • extra.txt
  • C:\otmove.txt
in your next reply.

The text from these files may exceed the maximum post length for this forum, and may need to be sent over 2 or more posts. Please ensure all text is posted.

I have followed the steps up to Run Deckards System Scanner, this is where I stopped

I stopped right before this process because my message from OTmoveIT2 came up as posted below and I didn't know to proceed or not. I restarted after the saving process and then I also shut down my computer from a "turn off" off the start menu, after the first restart the new message appeared as listed below. I also just noticed I did not capitalize "windows" and "system" in the file path I was not sure if thats what caused it to not allow the files to move? If so should I just follow the path again as listed in the previous post. I appologize for the dumb mistake if that is the case. Thanks

*OTmoveIT2 before restart*

DllUnregisterServer procedure not found in C:\Windows\System32\urqNEVMd.dll
C:\Windows\System32\urqNEVMd.dll NOT unregistered.
File move failed. C:\Windows\System32\urqNEVMd.dll scheduled to be moved on reboot.

*After restart* (I choose to run the program c:\otmove.txt on the restart)

OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.4.2 log created on 05222008_193759

Files moved on Reboot...
DllUnregisterServer procedure not found in C:\Windows\System32\urqNEVMd.dll
C:\Windows\System32\urqNEVMd.dll NOT unregistered.
File move failed. C:\Windows\System32\urqNEVMd.dll scheduled to be moved on reboot.

*Nothing happened following the turn off and on*

Hi wrs143,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

Let's change tack a little here. Please download the following & save to your Desktop:
ComboFix

Run ComboFix:
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Log file will be C:\Combofix.txt

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Hi wrs143,

Run HijackThis.
  • Click the Do a system scan only button.
  • Check the boxes for the all the entries listed below:
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - (no file)
  • Now close all windows other than HijackThis and click Fix Checked.
  • Close HijackThis.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Remove folders & files:
  • Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following, (if present):
Viewpoint Manager --> anything else with "Viewpoint" in its name
    AntispySpider

Please take note of any other programs that you don't recognise in that list, and include them in your next response
  • Using Windows Explorer, (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), delete these folders, (if present):
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
    C :\Program Files\AntispySpider

Please go HERE to run Panda's TotalScan
  • Select the bubble for Full scan
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • Then the scan will begin
  • When the scan completes, click the Save button on the right of Scan details
  • Save it to C:\active_scan.txt
  • Post the contents of the TotalScan report & a fresh HijackThis log

Cheers,

sage5

Hi wrs143,

These are all Windows components/ad-ons & should be left in place:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 HotFix (KB928366)
MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978)
MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB936181)
Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803)

These are either useless, or menaces:
Otto
SearchAssist
Sonic Encoders
Sonic Update Manager
URL Assistant
WildTangent Web Driver

Clean up Registry with a Reg file:
  • Please open a new Notepad file by clicking Start\All Programs\Accessories\Notepad
  • Copy the text from the following Code box, by highlighting all the text and right click, Select Copy. (or use the Ctrl+C keyboard shortcut)
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{C900B400-CDFE-11D3-976A-00E02913A9E0}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{C900B400-CDFE-11D3-976A-00E02913A9E0}]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{361ac05d-0e0d-11da-9aa9-806d6172696f}]
  • Paste it into Notepad. Right click in the window and select Paste. (or use Ctrl+V)
  • Save the file to the Desktop, make sure Type is All Files, and name it Fixreg.reg
  • Double click on the file created and click Yes when asked to merge the information into the Registry

Shut down & Reboot normally:

Run HijackThis again:
  • Select the Run a system scan and save a logfile button. The logfile will open in Notepad.
  • Start your Web browser and navigate back to this thread.
  • Click the Add Reply button
  • Copy and Paste the text into the Reply window.
Please include a note to tell me how your PC is running now.

Cheers,

Hi <insert name>

Congratulations, your new log looks clear, so we can now deal with some final clean up jobs.

Clean out cookies, temp files etc:
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.

NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Cleanup with OTMoveIt:
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Click the Clean up button
  • Click YES at the next prompt (list downloaded, Do you want to begin cleanup process?)
  • Click Yes to the reboot.

To Clear Restore points, please do the following:
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  • Double-click the System icon.
    • NOTE: If the System icon is not visible, click "View all Control Panel options" to display it.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Put a check by Disable System Restore.
  • Click Apply, OK, OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart Windows.
After reboot, you must turn System Restore back on:
  • Go back to the Troubleshooting tab.
  • UNcheck Disable System Restore.
  • Click Apply, OK, OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart Windows.

Lastly, some extra or better security for your PC:

The programs recommended below are freeware alternatives to some of your security software & might reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:-

Spyware Prevention:
Spyware Blaster by JavaCool Software, prevents spyware installing and consumes no system resources.
IE/SpyAd, stops suspect sites loading ActiveX, popups etc onto your PC. An excellent tutorial is Here

Spyware Detection:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is my favourite here.

Anti-Virus:
The first line of defence, especially since some will now detect trojans as well.
Avira's Antivir PersonalEdition Classic and Grisoft's Avast! Free Edition are among the best freebies.
*Please note* You should never install more than one anti-virus program on a PC, as it will cause conflicts.

Firewall:
A Firewall is an essential tool in the security of any PC connected to the Internet.
Sunbelt Personal Firewall and Comodo are both excellent freeware.

Alternate Browsers:
Thankfully, there are now some excellent alternatives to MS Internet Explorer. They offer better security, more stability, and better speed.
A couple of good examples are: Firefox and Opera

Other Updates:
Vital security patches and updates are available for Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer at the Windows Update Site
It is equally important to update the other security software you use, on a regular basis.

Further reading about these issues is available in a very good article: How did I get infected in the first place ? (by Tony Klein and dvk01)

All the best & safe surfing in the future,

Cleanup with OTMoveIt:

Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
Click the Clean up button
Click YES at the next prompt (list downloaded, Do you want to begin cleanup process?)
Click Yes to the reboot.

During this step after I hit the clean up button it causes OTmoveIT to stall and not respond, any suggestions or just go on with the rest of the process?

That OTMoveIt can take 20 secs or so to get the list of deletions.
Give it another try and wait 30 - 40 secs to be sure.
Go ahead with the System Restore instructions & if OTMoveIt will not play I will send you a list of deletions
