Run HijackThis and click Config > Misc Tools > Delete an NT service.

Now very carefully read the text of the prompt.

Click Start > Run > services.msc and find the Network Security Service (NSS)
Rightclick the line and choose Properties.
Make sure it is Stopped and Disabled

Then copy the part in bold into the HijackThis window:
Network Security Service (NSS)

Reboot when you are done and post a new log.

Hello again - i followed all the instructions and stopped and disabled the NSS. HOwever in my hijack this delete an NT service, i copied your bold text but i got an error message saying that the bold text (Network Security Service (NSS)) could not be found in the registery. So now its stopped and disabled but I couldn't delete it from hijack this. Let me know if i need to enter a different name into the delete an NT prompt.

thanks

In HijackThis it says you can also use the name between brackets, but you will have to copy that from your log yourself, so we don't run into the same problem.

Don't worry by the way. It's merely cosmetics. :tazz:

Looking at your log, I'd be tempted to say it's gone.
The log is clean anyway.

How is your computer behaving?

Wow - my computers been great as of late - its been working much quicker and i just tried to open up my computer from the desktop and there was no error. You're help has been incredible - i can't believe there are sites like this to help people. I greatly appreciate the time you took to help me. Last question - last fall I tried to get rid of something called the home search assistent virus which always hijacked my internet explorer broswer. I since started using mozilla firefox, which is better anyway, but i was wondering if any of the stuff you had me remove would have gotten rid of that virus too -

thanks again

The Home Search Assistant and the Network Security Service (NSS) are from and and the same family.

Both should be gone now.

Have a look at my site about the removal and prevention of spyware.

The chances of getting infected again depend on a lot of factors, that are for about 99% in your own hands.

So, take the time to get protected and it will pay back.
