Hi, my dad was using this laptop for his internet banking and it didn't seem to work.
He said that the day before there was some pop ups saying automatic updates or whatever and I got sus so I ran an Ad-Aware scan.
It found the w32.trojan.agent and I tried removing it but after a re-scan straight after, the trojan still seemed to be there.
I have Ccleaner, HijackThis and Lavasoft Ad-Aware on my computer atm and I can't seem to get rid of this trojan.
Please help asap 'cause my dad does his internet banking on this computer and I'm worried something might happen as we already can't log in.

Here is my HijackThis log.

Hi there,

Welcome to GeeksToGo. My name is RatHat, and I will help you get through the process of cleaning the malware from your computer.

OK firstly, I need you to print out each post I make so that you can refer to it while we fix your computer. This is because there will be times when you are unable to be online to read my instructions, and I will want you to do everything very carefully. I also need you to follow my instructions in the order that they are given. If however, you cannot carry out one of them, please continue on with the next and let me know what you were unsuccessful with. Please ensure you turn off word wrap in Notepad. To do this, open Notepad, choose Format, then Un-check Word Wrap. (Word Wrap makes reading your log difficult).

Next, I would like to make sure that you can view hidden files and folders;
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading SELECT Show hidden files and folders.
  • UNCHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • UNCHECK the Hide extensions for known file types option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I am not seeing anything bad in your log, however I cannot see any AntiVirus or Firewall. If you have either of these please enable them, if not here are some very good free ones that you can install. Remember to only install one AV and one Firewall.
Anti Virus ProgramsPersonal Firewalls~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now lets take a closer look into your computer. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, DSS will open two Notepad files: main.txt and extra.txt
  • Use Save As to save both Notepad files to your Desktop and post them in your next reply.
Note: A copy of these files can be found in you root drive, usually C:\Deckard\System Scanner\
Regards,
RatHat
I am still not seeing anything wrong other than the lack of AV and Firewall, and that your version of Java is out of date.
Please install an AV and Firewall, then update Java to the latest version here (Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6). Once downloaded, install it and then Reboot your computer.
It is most important that you also uninstall older versions of Java.
  • Click Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
  • Delete all Java updates except Java ™ 6 Update 6
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Additionally, please uninstall Adaware and update it to the latest version from http://www.lavasoftusa.com

It is possible that Adaware has been giving you a false positive which will go once the latest version is installed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, run an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner. Note: You must use Internet Explorer to run this scan.
Click the Accept button.
You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display the results if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop as Kaspersky.txt.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
RatHat
Okay, I've scanned using Kaspersky Online Scanner but I couldn't save as text, only as a .html file but here's the text in the .html file.
I can only scan but I can't delete the files?
Sorry, had to take the kids out.
Please download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):
C:\AutoRun.inf
D:\AutoRun.inf
Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Open Notepad, and copy everything in the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy).
  • Save the Notepad file to your Desktop as OTM.txt.
  • Close OTMoveIt
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
Please include the contents of OTM.txt in your next reply, and let me know if you are getting any more warnings.
Regards,
RatHat
Hardly anything came up in the results box.
C:\AutoRun.inf moved successfully.
D:\AutoRun.inf moved successfully.
OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.4.2 log created on 05252008_212206
Did I do something wrong? You said to copy the file paths below but there were only two of them. I just copied what you wrote in red and copied and pasted into the box in MoveIt, is that correct?
Thanks,
Jason.
That was correct, that is all that was found. How is the machine running now? Have you installed the AV and Firewall?
Umm, I'll rescan with AdAware08 and see if the thing still pops up.
I'm going to run a full scan now.
Which free AV do you recommend my dad use for this laptop?
Thanks again.
Seems to still be there on Adaware08.
Have I removed it yet? Because all I've done is scan with Adaware but it doesn't get rid of it, then give a copy of kaspersky online scanner log, which can't remove it as it just shows what has been infected.
All I've used is MoveIt but I don't know what is does lol .
I'll try installing an AV now but which do you recommend to use as freeware ? Which is the most reliable ?
Thanks.
Any of the three I mentioned earlier, with my personal preference being either Avira or Avast. For the Firewall, I would prefer Comodo. It is a nuisance when you first install it, but once it has "learnt" your system, it is very good.
