You probably do not have a recovery partition on the drive.

Is the HP bootable?
If so....
Lets take a look at the drives and partitions.

Go to start
Go to run
Type in compmgmt.msc
Click on OK
On the left side under storage...click on disk management.
Make sure the right side showing the drives is expanded so we can see it all.
Take a screen shot showing the drives and partitions.

Attach it to your reply.

What is the exact model of the HP mini? We can see if we can find a manual.

i have an Acer and none of this has worked for my computer and was wondering if its different for it?

Hard Disk Recovery
should be enabled by default. If it is not, you may need to go into your system’s BIOS by hitting F2 at boot and enable it under the Advanced tab.

Once Hard Disk Recovery is enabled, restart the system and hit ALT+F10. This will begin the system recovery process. You will be prompted to type six zeros as a security step. Type 000000 to proceed.

WORKS: If you have windows XP, If you don't, If possible, Tap F8, go to ''SafeMode With Networking'' And download it.

When your computer boots up, tap F6 OVER AND OVER ! (:

BackOnTrack ROXIO Should pop up, Click restore. Then a list of dates should pop up. Choose which date you want to go back to. This restoring peocess takes anout 3-5 minutes. Then it will restart your computer, and it should work. If this error happens AGAIN, Tap F10 on Boot Up, And go to DIAGNOSTICS. Then go to ''DISK TEST'' This will take about 48 minutes. If it fails, You need to recover your hard disk. If it passes with 0 Errors, You need to completely ''re-do'' your computer with an Windows XP Disk that cost about 11 dollars. This is a bit of a stretch, and some may think it is wrong to say what I am going to say.


Download an iso of your XP version (same build) find it through google or what have you. burn the disk, use your serial on the case/laptop and you should be golden.
[bleep] you may even use nlite to slipstream all the service packs, and hotfixes as well as drives and create a new .iso. If you are using it to recover and not redistribute I dont see a problem with this.

If you open a command box and type restore as the command it will take you to the restore center. At least that's what it did for my gateway with windows vista. Hope this helps.

I use Windows Vista...Am i right in saying that if i press ALT F10 before the windows start up screen, it will master reset the computer?
If so, am i also right in saying, if i transfer some files that i want to keep to a different drive than C, it will save these files?

Tom is your system a Acer? If so then what you described is the correct key set to start the factory system recovery.
You can move data you want to save but programs will need to be reinstalled.

i did this and after the packard bell screen now it goes straight to the black screen with the cursor at top left but nothing loads. help. FYI the reason I'n trying to restore is because done a windows update on sat and it made the screen separate into 8 tiny screens. can hardly read the writing.

Deleted all update file no joy. Made sure the dual monitor hadn't been selected in personalise - display.
