Ok, here's the deal:

Originally, my PC and my gf's laptop were networked and transferring files just fine. Well, a virus hit me. A severe back-door Trojan and an expert key logger to be exact. However, thanks to the patient efforts of Essexboy, I was able to get rid of it and put everything back to normal...or so I thought. Now, neither computer will recognize each other, AND it is constantly freezing on me when I try to run the set-up wizard, or detect other work groups. My gf has changed the names on both her laptop, and my PC. As well as, changed the name of the work group in an effort to fix the problem. Well, it was an epic fail. So, here I am once again, requesting the help of the greats. Also, if you can also help me get my USB Ports to work again, that would be great too.

Have you tried removing all your networking settings, reboot, and reinstall?

If you mean by attempting to remove everything in "My Network Places", then no because it freezes up everytime. If you have a solution, please tell me.

Try rebooting with the windows CD and doing a repair of your windows installation.

Um, no. I'm not doing that. All I want is for my 2 comps to recognize each other again, that's it. Besides, I don't have a Windows CD for my desk top, and the cd-rom drive for the laptop is broken.

I'd like to see some more information. Please follow the steps below.
  • Go to Start -> Run.
  • In the Box, type in "cmd".
  • A black box will appear. Type in: "ipconfig /all".
  • A lot of information will appear, Please right click the black window and hit mark.
  • Select every line of text you recieved and hit "enter" to copy.
  • Then paste it into your next reply.

I'd like this from both the laptop and the PC.
What are you using to network it? A Router? If so which one? If not what do you use?
Lets do it one step at a time and get the network running first.
Give me as much detail of what you see as we can only work with what you give us.

Regards,
Olrik
