I was trying to load new software for my wife's new camera today and I found that there is not a CD drive listed in the various drives on "My Computer". Does anyone know how to go about helping the computer recognize that the drive is still there?

First check all connections between the motherboard and the cd drives. Unplug and replug them in. Then check in device manager to see if there is a problem with the drives. Also check in event viewer for any problems. If there are no problems and connections are good, your cd drive has probably died. It is cheaper to just buy a new droive and install it than to go thru days of troubleshooting. CD drives are my best seller next to memory at my shop.
