Hello salmonandrichmond, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo!.. Please do the following...

    • NOTE: You will need to temporarily disable any programs you have running that will block attempts to edit the registry. As FixIEDef calls REGEDIT to delete registry keys added by Zlob, Trojan.Downloader.Delf, AntiSpyPro, and IE Defender.
  • Download FixIEDef.exe by ShadowPuterDude to the Desktop.
Note: FixIEDef now supports Non-English Language Systems

  • Double-click FixIEDef.exe:
    Posted Image

  • That will open the About FixIEDef screen. Click OK to continue:
    Posted Image

  • Next, press the Scan! button:
    Posted Image

  • FixIEDef needs to run as Administrator to perform correctly. This message simply confirms it was able to run with admin privileges. Click OK to continue:
    Posted Image

  • Wait for the scan to finish. It shouldn't take very long:

    Posted Image

    Posted Image

    • WARNING: FixIEDef will kill all copies of Internet Explorer and Explorer that are running, during removal of malicious files. The icons and Start Menu on your Desktop will not be visible while FixIEDef is removing malicious files. This is necessary to remove parts of the infection that would otherwise not be removed.
  • After the !!! All Finished !!! message is displayed, click Exit:
    Posted Image

  • Post the FixIEDef log file, located on the Desktop.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool". It is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

    See: http://www.beyondlog...processutil.htm

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) from HERE or HERE and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • Please let your firewall allow the scanning/downloading process.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Please post the following logs in your next reply... Please post each log in separate post..

1. FixIEDef
2. Deckard System Scanner (both main.txt and extra.txt)

Disclaimer
This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 10Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy. If you do not want your files to be distributed, please do not send them at all.

Hello, it seems you already have MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware inside your computer. Please run and update it.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Please include the following logs in your next reply..

1. MalwareBytes
2. A fresh Deckard System Scanner (after MalwareBytes' step)

Regards

Hello, thanks for the reply.. I have a good news for you.. Your logs look clean to my eyes.. :)

Now, lets do the following..

Please download OTCleanIt and save it to Desktop.

  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes

Please Install/Update Sun Java

Updating Java:
  • Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Add or Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  • It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
  • Select it and click Remove. This will uninstall the previous (outdated) version of Java.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here: Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6

Let's clean your Restore Points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous Restore Points which are likely to be infected)
To create a new Restore Point.
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK. This will flush your old System Restore.
  • Then please UNCHECK the Turn off System Restore.
  • Click again on Apply, and then click OK. This will create a new Restore Point
System Restore will now be active again

I noticed you already have:
1. Norton Internet Security consisting of your Antivirus and Firewall
2. MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware as your antispyware :)

And now, to help protect your computer in the future I would like to recommend you these following free programs. Please do remember to use only ONE "Real-Time Protection" software for EACH Antivirus, AntiSpyware and Firewall.
  • SpywareBlaster 4.0 to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

Lastly, to keep your operating system up to date please visit the link below monthly

To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read this excellent article by Tony Klein: So how did I get infected in the first place?

Please also read an excellent article by miekiemoes :Help! My computer is slow!

And another excellent article by CastleCops Malware Prevention: Prevent Re-infection

Please reply to this thread once more and tell us about the computer behaviour before we can close this thread :)

Have a safe and happy computing day!

Hi Fen,

Sorry I haven't replied, I've had the flu or something like it. I'll be sending a reply shortly once I can complete all your directions!

OK, Fen, I've done everything you requested. I have a few questions.

1. Should I just get rid of all the other stuff (aft-cleaner, windows defender, ad-aware, ad-watch, CCleaner, superantispyware free edition, trojan hunter, spybot search and destroy), and keep spywareblaster, spyware guard, and IE Spyad?

I loaded all that stuff partly from your directions and partly from other sites that suggested them.

2. I'm having another problem too, that's only been occurring since the infection. My computer intermittently and frequently tries to install Microsoft Wordperfect--but it's already installed. It came with the computer, so I never had a disc from which to load the program. If I hit the cancel button, it tries to load the program two more times. Then there might be a lull, for 5 minutes, 15 minutes or an hour--I never can tell how long it'll be before it starts again.

This is still going on, even after all the work we've done. I never mentioned it because I thought eventually it would disappear. AND, right after I completed all the tasks from your last post, I had a new installation window appear for the first time--it was for Quick Books instead. It only tried to install once, and when I cancelled it, it disappeared--so far.

Should I address this in a different topic, or can you help me with this? By the way, I can't thank you enough for your help. I really appreciate the time you spent reading over my endless logs, and helping me get rid of this malware. You're the best!

Ok..

1. Its your choice.. those programs are legit.. You might want to keep CCleaner and ATF Cleaner, and uninstall the rest.. But that's really your choice..

2. For your second question, I believe it is best to ask at our Windows forum. Please tell them that we send you there :)
