My computer recently became infected with some sort of virus. I get frequent popups while trying to use the internet. I say trying to use the internet because when I get on Firefox or IE they both go to my default home page google & wont let me access any other website besides the popups that pop up. The popups normally tell me that my computer is infected with a virus, ex: "Detect and remove viruses before they activate themselves on your PC." Another warning pops up that says: "Do you want to install AntiSpywareMater to scan your pc for malware now?" It also makes every running process take up like 3 times the memory it normally uses I have no clue whats up but its making my computer ridiculously slow. I've tried atleast 10 different forms of virus scan/malware scan and none of them have seemed to do anything. They did find various trojans and adware and removed them all successfully but the problem still persists & I can not access the internet. I can however get on messaging programs such as AIM. what the heck is goin on?!?!?!

p.s. I forgot to mention in the orinigal post that when I try to run a scan with SpyBot it gets about 75% of the way through and my computer just turns off.

Hello bout4911, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo.. Please do the following...

Please visit below webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingc...to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. DO NOT select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix (located in C:\combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

When I download ComboFix & the correct recovery console file from microsoft.com and drag it into the ComboFix file nothing seems to happen. It shows that ComboFix is loading but when it is complete nothing happens. When I reboot and try to execute ComboFix it goes through the same loading screen and shows a progress bar but when the progress bar reaches 100% again nothing happens and the program never opens up.

Hello, sorry about that, please rename ComboFix into Combo-Fix and try to run it.

If it fails, please run Combo-Fix from Safe Mode

Tutorial on how to get into Safe Mode

Please tell me if you succeed or not..
