Okay with the win9x system you had scanreg.exe to scan your registry but what about xp? I've done searches on MSKB but come up with nothing.. not surprising their search sucks.... i tried using google but the only thing I can find for registry scanning fixing is for scanreg.exe for win9x....

What are you trying to achieve with the scan. Is there any problem that you are trying to solve?

I am sure you understand that this is the broadest possible description. However, contrary to XP repair which I hardly use because I consider it unreliable, reinstallation of win98SE never failed me. Just insert the disk and start a new installation.

caution: The fact that this never failed me doesn't guarantee success. If you go for that, backup the data to be on the safe side.

That's what I was afraid you would say.... She hasn't called me back yet ( we are playing phone tag ) but maybe it's just something that wasn't uninstalled correctly or something like that....

wish me luck
