Kaspersky only found one file that needs to be removed. You should be able to just delete it using Windows Explorer.

As far as adware is concerned it now seems to be running fine. I have accessed sites and googled searches that always used to cause ads to appear - no ads now. Also, the annoying popup/ad saying system is under threat (fp.pc-on-internet.com) seems to have gone as well.

The sypwaredetector.exe file is the exe that I downloaded to install spwaredetector. I then registered and paid for the product. As this came from the official site and is part of my online protection I'm not sure I should delete this as I will not be able to reinstall if needed. Could this be a false positive result ?

As for other things, an ideas on the reported viruses/adware etc from Panda, Spyzooka and Spywaredoctor ? (Attachments in my 1st reply in this thread). Hopefully they are false as well.

Hi,

You can certainly keep the Spyware Detector installer, especially since you already paid for it. At one time it was on the list of rogue antispyware applications but was since delisted. Personally I would not trust it and there are better free apps. out there in my opinion, and you already have Spyware Doctor, which is very good. But that's just my opinion and your choice as to what to do.

As far as the other logs go, most of what was found was cookies or temp files, which are pretty harmless and can be cleaned up easily with the Windows Cleanup or a tool like ATFCleaner, which I already gave you instructions for.

Other than that I think we just need to clear out your restore points.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which may be infected anyway).

Click Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Select Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start>Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

Also, in addition to updating and using what you currently have you may want to consider the following free apps.:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Here are some free and evalutation versions that provide

Use Zoned Out -
Zoned Out will block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. Instructions for set up and use can be found at the website.

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

1. Turn Off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
Restart your computer.

2. Turn On System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
