Yesterday when I launched Guild Wars after not playing for a while everything went haywire. All kinds of files started asking for internet access and then I couldn't connect. Almost every where that I tried to go online came up with a "System is infected" message and the redirect went to spywarewarning2.mht in the windows system32 directory. I could not get to geekstogo or any other tech site. I could not transfer software to the PC and install and run it. Notepad would open and immediately close again so HiJackThis, the old version would still run, couldn't display the log file to me.

Identified files on the PC were
000090.exe
000080.exe

I believe that adptifv.exe was corrupt as well. I did get SupreAntiSpyWare to run and it did clean some files. I also got DSS to run and I have log files from that. This morning I did get SDFix to run by moving it over on a USB key and then renaming it. It wouldn't run as it was named.

Now I can get some products to update, AVG for instance but SuperAntiSpyware won't update and I could not get Malwarebytes to install nor could I get Panda to install the active x control and run.

I have an OEM version of windows and so I don't know if it can be repaired or not. I do have recovery console installed.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved and renamed following this process directly to your desktop**
  • If you are using Firefox, make sure that your download settings are as follows:
    • Tools->Options->Main tab
    • Set to "Always ask me where to Save the files".
  • During the download, rename Combofix to Combo-Fix as follows:

    Posted Image

    Posted Image

  • It is important you rename Combofix during the download, but not after.
  • Please do not rename Combofix to other names, but only to the one indicated.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combo-Fix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\Combo-Fix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combo-fix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

I actually found Combofix and ran it yesterday before I could get here to post. I did have to rename it to get it to run. Running ComboFix is what gained me access back to the tech forums. Prior to running ComboFix I ran SDFix. I had to rename it to get it to run as well.

Here is the log file from the ComboFix that I ran yesterday.

Reboot to safemode and try it again. The tool is updated several times a week, or even in a day.

I just booted it today. AVG found Agent.IJM still active so I guess that it got downloaded during one of the brief periods of time that I have had it connected in the past 48 hours. One of the files that I had placed in a zip file as a suspect file was identified as Pakes.AAY.

AVG will update dat files. SuperAntiSpyware generates an error when it tries to update. When I reply don't send an error report to Microsoft that generates a Dr Watson error. Then SuperAntiSpyware just stays hung up and Ihave to close it manually. I have 3 instances of drwatson.exe processes and 6 instances of svchost running. Task manager only shows Applications and Processes tab.

I just plugged the network cable back in and let it connect to the internet again and task manager "encountered a problem and needs to close"

Evidently still some stealthy critters in there somewhere.

I'm going to look over the logs again, either I am missing something or they just arent showing in the logs. C an you do the following for me please

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit. Please post the log with a new Hijack log

It's running now. The other tabs in Task Manager came back. Then they go away again depending on what's going on. I had to open Outlook to get some contact info and it causes errors too including an out of memory error! Last time that I looked there were 6 drwatson processes running. I closed all of those.

Trojan.NTRootKit.1075 found in userinit.exe I'll post the report when the scan is done.

Thanks, I was starting to suspect you had legitimate file/s infected, lets see if the legit userinit is indeed infected. Dr web may show it but please do this

Jotti File Submission:
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe
  • Click on the submit button

Please copy and paste the results here
