Hi recently I start to feel my computer weighing down a bit, and did a regular AVG scan, and found some common stuff, only one was in the "Red" section.

All's good, it was removed, but I felt my NOD32 just wasn't cutting it. I upgraded to Kaspersky, and found it conflicted with AVG, so I uninstalled in Safe Mode and put back NOD32.

Kaspersky is a huge resource hog, and now I feel NOD32 is too, since I never noticed the "Real-time protection" option. Is this really necessary and does it waste a lot of space?

Also, after all this, I feel my computer is really slowing down, whether it be firefox, or word, or my usual activities.

Also, the internet is quite slow on some pages.
Well, here's the Hijackthis log, was hoping a specialist could take a look. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

thanks a lot in advance!!

Hello smellybeans3 and Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Sorry to have kept you waiting. We've been swamped with logs lately.

Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary.
Let's do some scans to see if there's any hiding.

First,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Next,

Download and scan with SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users
  • Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
  • An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
  • If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
  • Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
    • Close browsers before scanning.
    • Scan for tracking cookies.
    • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.

Finally,

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Post back with the following logs.

- MBAM log
- SuperAntispyware log
- DSS log main and extra

We're not done yet...
Still have to do some scans to be sure we didn't miss any.

But before we do...

First,

Download OTCleanit
Save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click on OTCleanIt.exe to run
  • Click on the CleanUp! button
  • Click Yes to begin the Cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  • You may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the Cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Next,

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Then,

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Finally,

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Welcome Information page will open. Click on Accept
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded, click on Scan
    • Now under that section select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save Report as button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

I'll do all as instructed but is the ATF necessary? It always makes forums unable to load.
Also, my user on a forum has recently been compensated, could there be a keylogger on my computer, or perhaps it was just a database threat?

Close all browser when performing ATF clean up. This is needed because we want to clear unnecessary files on your system so that when you do the online scan, there are less files to go through.

We'll find out if there's a keylogger after the online scan.

Kay I did all that was asked, as expected, frames on the forum don't show now instead I get blank pages, probably a restart will fix this.

As for the Kaspersky, the My Computer scan didn't work for me, it would get stuck at 2% after an hour.

I did the "Critical components" one, and it found nothing. Here's the log anyways:

Hey smellybeans3,

Let's try that one more time but time.

Disable Spybot S&D (Teatimer)

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

Next,

Temporarily Disable Eset Smart Security"

Finally,

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Welcome Information page will open. Click on Accept
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded, click on Scan
    • Now under that section select My Computer

  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save Report as button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Reboot computer then postback with Kaspersky online log.

Okay but I'll have to do it overnight, I can't stand waiting. For now, am I safe to enter my passwords on different sites?

Just finish the scan then we'll see.
