VERY slow running PC which won't allow helpful programmes to run.

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I decided to install Limewire and Java which is required to go with it. As soon as Java had finished installing problems began, the PC wouldn't run properly so I restarted and got a black error screen.
Since then it's taken up to and sometimes over 15 minutes to get Windows to start up.

A friend of mine works in IT for a big company so he tried to help on MSN one night (which also has to reinstall itself everytime I start up) bu sending me ad-aware and malware things to download. I downloaded them but when I went to open them they wouldn't open as if they weren't there. He tried to gain access to my PC through remote assistance and although I could send the request and he could accept he couldn't actually get in. At some point my firewall had managed to switch itself off too.
I'm very worried as my friend mentioned there's a possibility my PC is now a zombie computer.

Welcome.

Sorry for the delay.

There is no signs of malware in those logs. Lets take a deeper look.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.

Thanks for getting back to me.
It would appear that my PC is now dead so I'm using someone elses for the time being.
I think it was a problem with my C Drive which looks like it's kicked the bucket. I have another drive which I could make the master drive but I don't have a clue and I don't know how to get all my pictures etc from the now deceased drive. Anyone here in the Norfolk area of England? Please help! Will exchange tea and cake for help!

Hi, Vickeye :)

You can install Windows XP in the new drive and connect the sick drive as a slave. That should give you access to the drive.

I would recommend you post a new topic in the Software forum. I am sure someone can help you install windows in the new drive.
