When I try to open a MSWord file, a messages comes up saying "select the encoding that makes your document readable".
I select Windows(default).. and I just get this..

/ " t > t > 3| & 3X >P 0 O 0 .+G0, D l % > : / x / 0 % 0L D -"

for lots of pages.

Can someone please help me out please?

Have you tried the other encodings?
What version of Word do you have and what version of Word was the document saved in?

Yeah I've tried the other encodings, and none of them seem to make it readable. The documents saved in MSWord 97-03 Doc
I had this file on a pen drive, and somehow it went missing(not sure how).. So I recovered the file with PC Inspector. But when I try to open it just keeps displaying all this unreadable encoding..
