Adaware & malwarebytes removed most of the web fun my websearch webfetti stuff, yet still when I boot up I get the message "Error loading: C:\Programs\mywebsearch\bar\1.bin\m3plugin.dll The specified module could not be found."
Can anyone please help me? I have a brand new (well refurbished) computer and I have already messed it up.

Also, it is running very slowly. I can barely open up browser pages. I have to leave the room while they load and less than a month ago this computer was running much faster than my old computer. Now it is much slower.

I ran all the logs requested with the exception of the ATF Cleaner thing because it gave no options for Internet Explorer (only Firefox and Opera) and I was too scared to run it. The rest of the logs are as follows:

Hello

Please click on Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the following programs(if present):

MyWebSearch

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner and click Accept

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hi... thank you for your help.

I looked under add/remove prgms and did not find mywebsearch listed there. I think malwarebytes already removed that part.

Also, I tried to run the dss prgm, but Windows Vista said it has stopped working and it would let me know if a solution became available. I tried it twice and got the same message.

Do I need to be able to run the dss program before I run the other prgm (Kaspersky Webscanner)?

I was so grateful and excited to see that someone had responded to my topic post and now I can't believe I have already run into a snag.

:)

Hello....
I was unable to run the dss prgm even in Safe Mode.
I ran the Kaspersky Online scanner, but it turned up no detections and offered no report. It was blank.

What should I do?

I did run the above scans as requested earlier on in my quest for help. The Malwarebytes prgm did detect all the webfetti stuff, but for some reason something on my computer is still commanding some run dll thing to run and seeking that file.

Also, since the dss prgm wouldn't work I tried to uninstall it. There is an icon on my desktop and I saved the prgm to desktop, as instructed, but when I go to add/remove prgms, I cannot find it. How do I uninstall that?

Is there any hope for my computer to be back to normal?

Thank you....

Do this

Download OTScanIt.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Open the OTScanIt folder and double-click on OTScanIt.exe to start the program.
  • Under Additional Scans check the boxes beside Reg - Bot Check, Reg - Desktop Components, Reg - Disabled MS Config Items, Reg Mountpoints2, File - Additional Folder Scans, and File - Purity Scan.
  • Under Drivers change it to Non-Microsoft.
  • Under Files Created Within and Files Modified Within change it to 90 days.
  • Check the box at the top-left beside Scan All Users
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Use the Add Reply button and post the information back here in an attachment. I will review it when it comes in. The last line is < End of Report >, so make sure that is the last line in the attached report.

Make sure you attach the report in your reply. If it is too big to upload, then zip the text file and upload it that way

I will review the information when it comes back in.

Click here to use the F-Secure Online Scanner

  • In case you are having problems with installing the ActiveX/starting the scan, please read here.
  • Click the Full System Scan button.
  • It will start to download scanner components and databases. This can take a while.
  • The main scan will start.
  • Once the scan finished scanning, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button
  • It could be possible that your firewall gives an alert - allow it, because that's a connection you establish to submit infected files to F-Secure.
  • The cleaning can take a while, so please be patient.
  • Then click the Show report button and copy and paste what's present under results in your next reply.

Hi...
Gosh, I am trying to use the F online pgrm you directed me to, but suddenly my Windows Vista is denying me access to many things, including installing Active X. I don't know what happened. This computer came with Windows Vista already installed and a friend helped me do a couple of things. He even asked me if I was set up with adminstrator rights and I said yes, I am the only one who uses the computer, because I guess it was acting up then. I don't even know enough about Vista to know how to change this.

I am going to have to figure it out before I can run that program.

Please don't give up on me!

Thank you...

Yay!!! Whoo Hoo! It's gone! Thank you so very much. You are AMAZING!

Would you mind just helping me know how to remove all the little programs that you had me do scans with? I removed a couple in Add/Remove prgms, but some of them are not in there, like the dss one, which I was never able to get working on my computer anyway. I guess some of the pgrms I saved to my desktop, but I don't know if just deleting them from my desktop with fully delete them? ????

Thank you again...really....I don't remember how I happened upon this website, but I'm so glad I did and cannot thank you enough for all your time and effort.

Blessings...

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer against malware infections.

* Keep Windows updated by regularly checking their website at :
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.

* To reduce re-infection for malware in the future, I strongly recommend installing these free programs:

SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX
IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all
Have a look at this tutorial for IE-Spyad here

* SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts. Make sure you are only running one real-time anti-spyware protection program or there will be a conflict.

Make Internet Explorer more secure
  • Click Start > Run
  • Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click Reset all zones to default level
  • Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
  • In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
  • Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

* MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well known ad sites and other bad sites. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer, meaning it will be difficult to infect yourself in the future.

* Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more
secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in pop up
blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from
Here

* Take a good look at the following suggestions for malware prevention by reading Tony Klein’s article 'How Did I Get Infected In The First Place'
Here

Thank you for your patience, and performing all of the procedures requested.

Wow..okay great...I am not at home at my own computer right now (am babysitting at my sisters and came on here to post a question to help her computer), but wanted to go in and check my topic replies.

I will complete these next steps when I get home this evening.

So...interesting that you mention Java because I have been having some trouble with Java and Flash player and stuff recently. My MySpace page is all weird and saying I must have javascript turned off or an outdated version of Adobe Flash Player...so someone else was helping me with that and I installed the newest version of Adobe Flash Player 4 times yesterday and went in and looked for what I was told to look for re javascript, but nothing helped and my MySpace page wouldn't recognize any of it.

Did running all these little scan programs change the java stuff?

Well, I am going to do what you tell me to do and I have a sneaking suspicion that everything will be all better after that.

Thank you for not giving up on me. This did take a lot of your time.

Will reply back when I complete the suggested steps.
