*Double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.

Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button. Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above. After that LAST file path has been entered press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts.

Post a new HiJackThis log.

Thanks for the clarification. I re-downloaded Killbox.exe, followed your instructions exactly. After I entered the final path, I clicked on YES to the both of the messages. Then another message came up:

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!

My only choice was to click OK and reboot manually. Should I have gotten this message?

I also checked - still can't access Norton AntiVirus or Windows Update. Thanks again for your help, here's my HijackThis log:

Reset your restore points. Do not turn off system restore again until you are all clean.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.

Then I downloaded Cleaner (the free trojan scanner) and also downloaded the latest DB (May 4, 2005) and ran that - it found nothing. I didn't get a log. I ran it again with additional options: scan zip files and scan hidden executables. Still didn't find anything.

Ok, I just realized that I have tried uninstalling Norton before, and can't. In fact, the problem is even worse than I first told you:

1. Any attempt to open/start any shortcut or anything in the Norton Internet Security folder results in a quick flash of "something" and then nothing.

2. Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Remove Norton results in the same problem - quick flash then nothing.

I haven't tried just deleting the folder, but that only deletes half the program. Also, Norton came with this computer and I don't have a disk to reinstall. Once I clean Norton off I will purchase McAfee and install that.

Curious - in my last post there was a virus detected in one of my programs:

About your windows update problem:

Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type

regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll

Click OK.


then start > run
regedit.exe

navigate to the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Curr­entControlSet\Services\wuauser­v

If you find a DeleteFlag value there on the right side, right click it and choose delete

Reboot, try windows update again

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Don't run it yet.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/Cleanup.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key until menu shows up. In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work. Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\dpcdml2r.dll

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Reboot into Normal Mode run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here.

Did you ever try the download concerning the horseserver connection? I think you may need to post a new topic in the xp/2000 windows section. Maybe they can find a way to help you out.

First, answer the question about the horseserver download.
And run Panda again and let me see what it says. Post a new log from that scan and a hijack this log.
