Hi there rik,

I'm glad to hear that everythings running good :)

You can fix these items with Hijack This, it will speed up your boottime considerably.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.

choose "Do a system scan only". Please put a check next to each of the following entries (if still present):

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxWatchTray] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\SharedCOM8\RoxWatchTray.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RoxioDragToDisc] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 8\Drag to Disc\DrgToDsc.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DAEMON Tools] "C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -lang 1033
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Cmaudio] RunDll32 cmicnfg.cpl,CMICtrlWnd
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Camera Detector] C:\PROGRA~1\ACDSYS~1\DEVDET~1\DEVDET~1.EXE -autorun
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kgsystray] C:\Program Files\Kuma Games\kgsystray\Kuma_tray.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] C:\Program Files\HP\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Photo Downloader] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\jusched.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.exe.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: HP Digital Imaging Monitor.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
O4 - Global Startup: HP Image Zone Fast Start.lnk = C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

Then click Fix Checked and exit the program.

Reboot and see if everything runs well and nothing is out of place, if its running good go ahead and uninstall Hijack This through add or remove programs.

Also take a look at this guide written by one of our experts here on how to speed up your computer: http://users.telenet...owcomputer.html

Please post back just once more to tell me if it went smoothly, then I will close the thread :)

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

Ran HJT and removed the entries - seems to be running nicely, thanks! One thing I have noticed is that I cannot seem to install the latest Automatic Updates:

It says 'Some Updates cannot be installed', i.e. all of them

Security Update for Windows XP (KB951376)
Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB950760)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB950759)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB950762)
Security Update for Windows XP (KB951698)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - June 2008 (KB890830)

Any ideas?

Yours 'Happy as a Croatian',

Did any error codes come with it?

Try going to update.microsoft.com, if those fail follow the instructions to get "More information" and post what it says (It should show you a code..)

Cheers,

Mike

Yup :)

Malware-wise your computer is clean :)

If you still have problems with updating, go over to the tech side of GeeksToGo! and ask them for some opinions.

Take care and have a great day still!

Once again, thanks so much for your expert help - some companies should take note of forums like this with their so-called technical support...

Cheers!
