Hello, I was recently infected with malware that acted as a popup warning me that there was a Trojan, and kept directing me to an alternate homepage for some anti-malware bs. After doing the first steps in the "Read this before posting a HiJack This Log" (running the scanners you guys provided for me), I was able to get rid of the pop up and the homepage; however, each scan still pulled up some kind of infected file, and now my computer takes forever to reboot. According to my girlfriend (her laptop), it reboots ok when she starts the computer without the Wireless Radio on, but I am still quite concerned.

So, if any help with hijack this would be much appreciated. I wish I still had the link my homepage was sent to, but I do remember there being something about cyberlog-X, if that is any help.

Thank you,

Adam

Hello fatpolomanjr and Welcome to Geeks to Go!

Sorry for the delay. We've been quite busy this week. :)

Your scan showed you indeed have malware on your system.
Don't worry, we'll get you cleaned up.

Let's begin.

First, please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {54EB34EA-E6BE-4CFD-9F4F-C4A0C2EAFA22} - (no file)

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Next,

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit2.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Bri Bri\Application Data\Microsoft\dtsc\22293.exe

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{C900B400-CDFE-11D3-976A-00E02913A9E0}

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste List of Files/Folders to Move" window (under the light Yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Post back with,
- New HijackThis log
- OTMoveIt2 log

Koko_crunch,

I don't mind the delay; last week was kind of stressful anyway. Thank you for helping me out though.

Here's the new logs you requested, after I ran HiJackThis and OTMoveIt2:

File move failed. C:\Documents and Settings\Bri Bri\Application Data\Microsoft\dtsc\22293.exe scheduled to be moved on reboot.
File/Folder not found.
< HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{C900B400-CDFE-11D3-976A-00E02913A9E0} >
Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{C900B400-CDFE-11D3-976A-00E02913A9E0}\\ deleted successfully.

OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer - Version 1.0.4.2 log created on 06152008_212947

Files moved on Reboot...
File C:\Documents and Settings\Bri Bri\Application Data\Microsoft\dtsc\22293.exe not found!

Up next,

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
  • Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
  • Close any open browsers.
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

      -----------------------------------------------------------

    • Close any open browsers.
    • WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
    • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.

    -----------------------------------------------------------

  • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Ok, I ran combofix on the laptop, and then it asked that I reboot the machine. After it rebooted, I tried logging in to a User account, but the computer has not gotten past the login. It has been 20 minutes; should I manually restart the computer or wait for it to reboot?

Yes please, reboot manually.
Please mention if you receive error messages.

After manually rebooting, I figured out that the computer did indeed log me in to the User account, but I could not tell since everything was deleted. There are no more toolbars or anything; the only thing that works is the Task Manager when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

Thus, I can't retrieve the information from any of the scans, or post the new HiJackThis log. Is there any way that I can retrieve/restore all of the data? Each account is the same: completely blank.

Whow!!! What happened there?!?!!? :)

Let's do a system restore,

Go to Task Manager then Click on "File" Menu
Select New Task then
Paste
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

Then press Enter key.
Restore to an earlier point prior to Combofix running...

System was successfully restored. d(O_O)b

So, should I try running combo fix again? I am not sure what happened myself, so hopefully it will work this time around.

Nope, we'll hold off on the fix for a while.
I consulted experts regarding this.
We'll wait on a reply before posting further instructions.

Hey fatpolomanjr,

Let's run a diagnostic so we can have a better look at your system.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.

Close all other windows before proceeding.

Click on Start, click on Run
copy and paste the following in bold in the open window and then click OK
"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config
This will open up DSS configuration
click on Check All
click Scan
DSS will now run again when finished
Please post back both logs that open in notepad
Main txt and extra txt
Make sure it doesn't get cut off.
