okay...i have been computing since my first 386 in 1990 and i have always avoided attacks...i have never had a problem like this, but somehow my computer has now been taken over. i have run spybot in safemode several times and removed multiple entries for coolwwwsearch....i have also run cwshredder in safe mode several times...nothing is working. the minute i go in and manually delete the files that have downloaded into my windows folder, they reappear before my eyes. i see that you guys really help others with this problem. i need your expertise!

here is my HJT log:

Hi there Zerokreap, welcome to geekstogo.

Please follow my instructions in the order they were given, if you come across something you don't understand or don't feel comfortable doing, don't hesitate to ask and I will get you sorted out :)
If you cannot complete a step in my instructions, please skip it and continue with the rest of my instructions and tell me in your next reply which one you were having trouble with.

First I will need you to temporarily disable Ad-Aware as it could conflict with our fixes.

Ad-Aware Ad-Watch

1. Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray.
2. At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".

Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically

3. Uncheck both of those boxes.

Now please go here to install the recovery console and for a guide on using combofix.
Please note: Installing the Recovery Console plays a vital part in making this process of cleaning your computer safe, please don't overlook this!

Now please download combofix from here or here. It is important that you save this file to your desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a Hijack This log in your next reply.

A quick heads up, if you click on combofix's window when it's running, you may cause it to stall.

Hi again :)

What a nasty log :) Let's get rid of all this bad stuff.

Preparation

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
 • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
 • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
 • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
 • Expand the "Tools" menu.
 • Click "Resident".
 • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
 • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
Step 1. Uninstall Programs

Please go to start, click on Control Panel, then add or remove programs, find and uninstall the following if present:
Gator
Internet Speed Monitor
iCheck
GetModule
Aluria

Step 2. Making a CFScript

Please click Start then Run, in the window appears type in Notepad.exe.
Highlight the entire content of the codebox below. Copy (Control + C) and Paste (Control + V) the content into the notepad window:

Hi there,

Much better, let's remove some things and do one more full scan to make sure everything is taken care off.

Go to start, control panel, then add or remove programs and uninstall Internet Speed Monitor & Viewpoint Media Player

Viewpoint has been heading torwards being catagorized as malware, although it is labeled as "foistware" at the moment. Please read this http://www.clickz.co...ml?page=3561546

Step 1. Updating Java
 • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 6.
 • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
 • Click the "Download" button to the right.
 • Select your Platform and check the box that says: "I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 License Agreement.".
 • Click on Continue.
 • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation (jre-6u6-windows-i586-p.exe) and save it to your desktop. Do NOT use the Sun Download Manager..
 • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
 • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
 • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
 • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
 • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
 • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
 • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Step 2. Making a CFScript

Please click Start then Run, in the window appears type in Notepad.exe.
Highlight the entire content of the codebox below. Copy (Control + C) and Paste (Control + V) the content into the notepad window:
File::
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\PrecisionTime.lnk

Folder::
C:\Program Files\Aluria
C:\WINDOWS\1a

Registry::
[-HKLM\~\startupfolder\C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^PrecisionTime.lnk]
Now in Notepad, go to File and in the menu that drops down click on Save As...
Save the file as CFScript.txt

Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
Posted Image

After that please reboot your computer if it asks you to and post ComboFix.txt (the report the ComboFix will generate) in your next reply.

Step 3. Running Kaspersky Online Virusscaner

Please re-run ATF Cleaner then proceed with the scan.

Please run a free online scan with Kaspersky AntiVirus (works only with MS Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher).
Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner and click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button (NOT "Kaspersky File Scanner").
 • In the new window that opens, click the "Accept" button to accept the user agreement, install the ActiveX control, and download the program.
 • When you get the Windows dialog asking if you want to install this software, click the "Install" button.
 • When the "Update progress" line changes to "Ready" and the "NEXT ->" button lights up with a green arrow, click it.
 • Click on the "Scan Settings" button, and in the next window select the "extended" database, and click Ok.
 • Under "Please select a target to scan:", click My Computer to start the scan.
When the scan is finished, click the "Save as Text" button, and save the file as kavscan.txt to your Desktop, close the Kaspersky On-line Scanner window, and post the text in kavscan.txt in your next reply.

In your next reply

Please post the log from ComboFix.
Please post the log from Kaspersky.

If the logs are to big to fit in one reply please spread them out over multiple replies.

How is your computer running now? Any issues?

Hi there :)

Kaspersky found 3 files that we will remove now, the rest are in quarantine or System restore (we will remove those in a moment).

Please click Start then Run, in the window appears type in Notepad.exe.
Highlight the entire content of the codebox below. Copy (Control + C) and Paste (Control + V) the content into the notepad window:
File::
C:\B4.tmp
C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Walker\Desktop\desktop2\Desktop\Software Files\DivXPro503GAINBundle.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin Walker\My Documents\My Music\03 Track 3 (valleygirl).wma
Now in Notepad, go to File and in the menu that drops down click on Save As...
Save the file as CFScript.txt

Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

And your logs look clean! :)

Step 1. Removing ComboFix

Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK

Notice the space between the x and / -- That needs to be there.

Now please download OTCleanIt.
 • Save it to your desktop.
 • Double Click on OTCleanIt.exe, a window will appear.
 • Please press the CleanUp! Button.
This will remove the tools we used during the process of cleaning your computer.

Step 2. Configuring Automatic Updates

Click the Automatic Updates tab. Choose the update option that best suits your needs, but be sure that Automatic Updates is not turned off. Windows XP will now notify you and download important updates and security patches as they become available.
Click "OK" to save your new settings and close the System Properties dialogue.

Step 3. Preventing future infection

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems.

In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Spybot-Search & Destroy
A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
http://www.spywarewa...uc/resource.htm

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/

Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.

There are many programs that can be used for your protection, most falling within the three main categories of anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall. Please be careful to never run more than one program of the same category in resident mode, as conflicts between the different programs can actually decrease your protection.

Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. :)

Please post back and tell me if everything is OK, so that I may mark this thread as Resolved.
